UPenn Supplement (not p.217) too long???

I was just wondering if 795 words is too long for the UPenn Required Supplement?

It does say one page is the limit, but it got significantly longer than my other supps, so I got curious.

Well…it says one page…and if I remember correctly, that requirement was put in bold (maybe I remember wrong). Guess you have to decide whether the extra length is worth the risk.

How long is yours, if I may ask?

Less than one page. I didn’t believe in writing too much, because my point was one I could get across in a few paragraphs. In fact, mine was better short than long. So I guess it depends on your essay, and whether that extra length really adds to it as a whole.

Do they mean one page single or double spaced? I’m assuming double… one page single can get quite lengthy…

It’s probably single-spaced. I know USC wants 500 words, which would normally take up 2 pages, but they say that most applicants can make their essays “fit into one page.”

fiddle with the margins to fit your essay into one page :D

^ lol that’s what I did. I’m pretty sure it’s double spaced…because apparently some guy emailed them and they suggested not going too much over the 250 limit. But I know how you feel, because my first one was like 800 words, and I had to cut it down…It does seem more precise when it’s short though. I’d definitely cut it down.

My quick question though, for this essay, did you guys get “creative” or does it seem really generic (and also a bit vague and simple)…because with a 250 word limit, there’s not too much space to fancy up the essay.

I feel like the 250 suggested word limit offers enough to get a decent creative essay off. The common app’s 150 word limit on the short essay is even tougher to pull off, but I think if you can give either one a nice tweak it makes you stand out among all of those who wrote a boring supplement essay/boring short essay.
