Applied and matriculated in '08. Let me know if anyone here wants help on their apps/essays/resumes/etc., as I’m happy to help out fellow prospective Quakers =)

I have a quick question actually, when I refer to Penn in my essays, which abbreviation should I use, i.e. UPENN, UPenn, Penn, PENN, etc. (assuming it’s ok to abbreviate).

Can someone throw me a link for the midterm report? I have found one for student using the Universal College Application. However, I am using the common app, what do I use??

I was waiting for this kind of thread!
Applying as an incoming sophomore.
Current school: Montgomery College (CC in MD)
CAS, Biological Basis of Behavior Major. Will probably double with Cognitive Science.
HS GPA: 3.5 WGPA: 4.02
College GPA: 3.67 (Damn you Orgo!!!)
ACT: 29 (E28, M31, R28, S29)
SAT II: Hebrew 800, Chem 770
Pretty good ECs.
Good essays (currently working on the last one). The optional is my best.
Amazing recs.

Applying as: incoming junior
Current school: UC Riverside
HS GPA: like 3.2 unweighted, not rigorous classes, BAD
College GPA: 3.96, very rigorous classes
Major: Computer Science
SAT: 2260
Essays: …haven’t…started…yet. Should probably start soon, haha
Letter of recommendations: Two positive but very vague ones. One extremely good Rec from an important person (principal, superintendent, and stuff). I feel like that last one makes up for the vague other ones just because it’s very personal
EC: Playing in a band, working as a teacher, studying programming languages independently
Comments: I’d like to think I have a good shot, but if I can’t buckle down and write some good essays then I probably don’t. But man, I am swamped with school work and writing an essay is the last thing I feel like doing.

Don’t feel bad! My SAT/HS grades are worse than you. Don’t loose hope, having a good college GPA your sophomore year should have more weight than your past record. When did you take the SAT?

@ Bullmarket - thanks for the vote of confidence, I appreciate it Bullmarket. I took the SATS in October 2007 and the SAT II in January 2008. I took the three tests once each which is probably my biggest mistake… should of tried and tried again

Currently in U of illinois Urban-champaign, My sat score is relatively low, only reading 580. math 780, writing 640, and Math 2 800 physics 760… but I have a pretty good GPA in first semester(I am a freshman right now), 4.0 for 17-credit and a little rigourous courses.
how will penn evalute my academic performances? will the low sat score have a big negative effect on my application?

@ iverson- your college GPA will be the most important factor, but since you are a freshman, they will still weight your high school record pretty heavily (compared to a soph transfer). Optional essay is entirely optional, so it will not hurt you, but can help if it’s any good.
