Nvilla,
thanks!!!

I must clarify. What I meant is that not submitting the optional essay will not hurt you. If you submit something bad/poorly written, then yes, that will probably have a negative impact on your application.

Because it’s optional, they probably don’t give it much weight, but if you have a good essay, this will only help.

Yeah, I applied mid-February and got my log-in stuff pretty soon thereafter.

hey did anybody get to check mypenn portal yet?

it’s weird that all of my supplement submissions haven’t been checked yet (sec. school report, 2 letter of recs, college official transcript). my rec letters were sent like in early Feb…

does anybody have the same problem?

Yup… exactly same here.
I called them up like two weeks ago and the girl there said that the system is VERY slow.

is it me or did anyone have a harder time writing the penn supplement essay? It sort of conflicted with my Penn common app essay haha.

the page 217 one was really fun though, I enjoyed writing it a lot. GL to my fellow potential Quakers :D

ivytroll & 45daysinrome:

Me, too! It’s really been worrying me lately. I’ve called them once or twice about it, but they keep telling me that they’re processing and that the Admissions Office WILL contact me if I really am missing anything… I believe them, but it’s been 2-3 months since I sent my “missing” documents in. I’m reallyreallyreally tempted to resend everything, but I don’t want to irritate them by creating more paperwork for them to file. sigh

I’m just hoping for the best… :)

now there is a message on pennportal saying that they arent processing transfer stuff until after they release RD decisions on april 1st. so wait one or two weeks after that, i’m sure everything will be up by then.

What are RD Decisions?? Isn’t that Regular Decision Decisions?? Or are you talking about something else?? Cause if you’re right, then you’re saying that they don’t REALLY take our rec letters into account?

An no, they haven’t checked ANY of my stuff yet, and I sent it all a while ago.

They meant that they will update the system after they are done with Freshmen applicants.

I heard that Penn CAS normally does not take transfer applicants who haven’t done calculus. I took AP Statistics and AP Physics B in high school, but I never got around to taking calculus (too many other AP’s were already on my plate). I planned on taking it next year so that I could experience classes in a lot of departments that interested me this year, and thus haven’t taken it at college yet either. Is this true, and if so, am I totally screwed?

Regarding tsakashvili’s comments, how do you guys think Penn admissions will view the fact that I’m going to take my first Calculus I course this spring term? (March 29 - June 5). I have to say I am a little concerned because my intended major requires a strong math background (economics). If it is relevant, I did take AP Calculus in my senior year, but did not take the AP exam and, unfortunately, received a B+.
