where is everyone transferring (or trying to transfer) from? just curious!

Current college: The University of Virginia
Current College Gpa: 3.6
Clubs/Extracurriculars: Club Tennis, KIVA, UNICEF, SEED(Student Entrepreneurs for Economic Development)

HS Gpa: 4.4, rank 5/800
Sat: Math 710, Reading: 630, Writing 620
AP Scores: Calc: BC 3, AB subscore 4, Stats:3
Extremely involved in activities/extracurriculars. (Eagle Scout)

What are my chances? any thoughts?

Aparmar: Your SAT reading and writing scores are quite low for a Penn applicant. Did you get A’s in your freshman english classes? If you didn’t, they probably are going to assume your English skills are lacking.

To Joe:
Well English is not my first language, I was actually not even born in the US. So i stress that english is by far my weakest attribute. I hope that my year at UVa will help me get in, I am an out of stater here at UVa. Also my essay (I feel) was quite compelling, it showed that I really wanted to come to belong and that I actually belong there. I’m from south jersey right near Philly and wrote extensively how I grew up a Philly Phanatic.

Aparmar4 im from south jersey too! if you don’t mind me asking, where in sj are you from?

Aparmar4: English is my second language as well, so I understand where you are coming from. Hopefully, Penn will take this into account when reviewing both of our applications.

ker2008: I’m from South Jersey too… haha

I lived in Vineland and went to Vineland High School, yeah…not the best place to be but I made it out alright lol. Where are you two from?

I am also from UVA applying for transfer, I went to school in Pakistan but I am a citizen. English is also my second language. I am applying for Wharton.

I wish decisions were just out already! Still got three more weeks I’d reckon.

Actually two more. According to threads from last year and the year before, Penn releases transfer decisions on the second Friday of May. That is two weeks from tomorrow!

Hey guys, thought I might be able to give you some insight on the process - I transferred last year.

Here are some stats.

College: A “New Ivy” - top 30-40 college
GPA: 4.0 first semester (when I sent my transcript), my mid-year report had a B plus and an A- on it - i took calc 1 and 2 while i was a freshman
Extracurriculars: I wrote extensively for the newspaper and was the treasurer for the Political Science club - btw don’t underestimate the importance of extracurriculars for transferring they probably look at it just as much as when you apply to school regularly
High School: Good Public school
GPA: 3.3/4.0 - obviously not great
SAT: 2110
ACT: 33

Last year when i asked about what they care about more - high school or college, i think they said 50/50 but i dont really remember, they probably just want to see a positive trend - in terms of GPA i think it depends on what school you are coming from - if your coming from a community college expect that you will need a 4.0, if your coming from another ivy or something similar (duke or stanford) you probably dont need that

feel free to private message me about anything if you have questions, i know i had a lot when i was in your position

Aparmar4: I live in Gloucester County too. To be specific, Washington Township, practically next door hah.

Which school did you transfer into?
