UPenn Transfer

How hard is it to transfer to UPenn as a Junior. Any Transfers out there that can help out or post their stats.

prettttty hard.
all of the successful transfers i know of had 3.8+ gpa's.

i will be applying as a junior transfer also, but let's not get ahead of ourselves. the app is due in march 2007.. haha :]

lol yeah, but forgiven, is that for Wharton or CAS. Im going to try CAS if anything.

I'm an incoming junior transfer. I got in with a 3.57 (ended the year with a 3.6) but I'm coming from a comparable school so that likely helped somewhat. I applied and was rejected to Cornell and Brown and was waitlisted at Columbia. Essays are very important; you need solid reasons to justify transferring. Recs are key, too. Get to know a few professors and let them know that you want to transfer as far in advance as possible. Don't slack in classes (the 3.6 is sort of deceiving since I did much better my sophomore year).

Also try not to stress out too much and look into other schools that you think would be a good fit. If I had to do it again I would have applied to a few more schools.

which school were you coming from?

well it'll be pretty impossible if you insist on calling the school UPenn in your application instead of Penn as is proper

I am too in the same boat as you all; I just sent out my application as a junior transfer a few days ago. While a lot of our decisions will depend on our individual stats, I think it will also depend on what Penn needs from our application pool. For example, I applied as a Math major, but if Penn already has a considerable upkeep of Math majors, then well I

HEEEEEEELP!! im new here

hi everyone im new here

Anthony,

Did you end up getting in penn?

I am writing as a 19 year old freshmen considering to apply as a transfer applicant to UPenn for the 2011 fall semester. I attend a school in the Northeast (there is a hint within my username) and am a little underwhelmed. Majority of the students do not have a passion to learn like the UPenn student body. The advising is poor as is the post-grad internship success and 60% of students graduate in 5 years. A strong reason why UPenn is the ideal school for me is because I have a passion to learn and enjoy surrounding myself with students similar to myself.
If accepted, I would major in the College of Arts and Sciences and take course in Spanish to become a stronger speaker. I also would take part in the Penn Model Congress and Student Government. With concerns to the application, I feel confident in my current grades, letters of recommendation and extra-curriculars. My SATs fall slightly below but I could retake them in March. Overall I feel I have a descent chance.
My question for you guys is what is the strongest aspect of the UPenn transfer application which I should focus on? What exactly are they looking for in a student which I should promote in my application? What aspects of the overall university make it stand out?
I am very grateful for your help. This is tough time and I am fortunate for your advice. Thanks.

I haven’t seen a 2006 thread on page 1 for a while…
Before the forum police come let me answer your question(s).

MOST important are essays. Then is college GPA (3.8 min to be competitive). Next is college level leadership.

Less important are SATs and HS GPAs as some people with HS 4.0s and high 2100+ get declined.

If you are missing any of the 3 important factors, you will probably not get admitted.

I plan on applying to Wharton for Fall of 2012. I currently go to SUNY Geneseo and have a 3.97 GPA out of 4. I played on the tennis team, am a member of accounting society, participate in our leadership program, am a member of the honor society, have made presidents and deans list for the past 3 semesters. I have done all of the prerequisites for the school and have gotten two excellent teacher recommendations. I just want to know where I stand and what chance I have.

i am currently studying at mcgill university, just enrolled actually this fall however i intend to apply to upenn for a transfer for fall 2013! what exactly do i need to do if i want this transfer to happen?

Dulz93: I am in the same boat. I am a freshman at McGill and I want to transfer into Penn CAS for premed. You should speak to your academic advisor, your two most familiar profs, and start really figuring out why you want to go to Penn. Just because McGill isn’t right for you is not a reason for Penn to accept you. I wish you all the best!

I took my ACT for a third time and scored a 34. My current GPA is a 4.0/4.0 and I have a top scholarship equivalent to an undergrad Rhodes award from McGill. In high school, I was ranked #1 in my grad class of size 250 and volunteered over 1200 just in the school on various projects. I was also recently invited to speak at TED Conference 2013 in the coming February. I hope to restart research here in Montreal this month. Apart from research, I am involved with 2 school clubs which are focused on community sustainability and health, and the McGill Choral chamber choir. I am applying for financial aid from Penn.

Could previously successful Penn transfer, especially someone who transferred from McGill, please reply with some helpful advice? Thanks!
