Hi Everyone!
I'm trying to decide which school to attend: University of Pennsylvania for Communication Design, or Northeastern University for Graphic Design and Interactive Media (Creative Industries program).
Any thoughts on either of these programs?
Thanks!

Anyone? Please?

since noone else is answering
NU is hard to grasp. not well known around here. there are few posts I can look up.
I liked it OK just digging around web and looking over the train track when I went to see MFA/SMFA
UPenn is solid, brainy, almost nerdy from kids I met there and the works I saw.
how about money?
would that be issue or not at all?

here is one of them. search the forum under Northeastern University, for more

I can’t speak for UPenn, but as a GD graduate from NU, I can tell you a few things about the program/school.

Let me preface this by saying I loved my time at Northeastern and I know you hear this alot when Northeastern is discussed, but I need to stress this: The co-op program is GOLD. If you take advantage of what it has to offer, then you will love NU. If not, it’s a different story.

I CO-OP’ed with Apple and An Architecture firm in Boston. My portfolio work from those two companies got me a job straight of school.

While the NU program is less well known than RISD, they actually share a few faculty members. Both John Kane and Mark Laughlin, two major contributors to the GD program at NU, also teach at RISD.

Positives of NU:
Knowledgeable Faculty - Everyone knows there stuff. Some split time at RISD.
CO-OP, CO-OP, CO-OP - Real world experience blows class room time out of the water
Up to date Technology - They stay on top of hardware and software for GD
Focused Curriculum - Some people see this as a negative, I like to think I got my moneys worth.

Detractions:
Not a well known Art and Design College - Matters to some people
Students are not as Art oriented as typical A+D Schools - Nature vs. Nurture, etc.
Lots of Red Tape - This is NU in general be prepared to battle with the registrar

Hope this helps!

Wow! NU has Graphic Design now? Boy have things changed. I graduated Mass Art as an Illustration Major with a B.F.A. but became a successful Graphic Designer instead, with just a few electives. You can apprentice in this area and skip college altogether. Employers can if you have a portfolio that shows you can do the job. Sometimes being too arty is not what is wanted for some businesses. Remember, award winners lose the account the next year because creative “arty” doesn’t necessarily sell.

Sorry to bump an old thread but since when does UPenn have a communication design program? Can anyone link me to the page?
