Upenn warton chances

Alright. So. I am white/non-hispanic male that lived in PA all my life. I am a sophomore going onto Junior. I want to double major in Mathematics and Business.

SCORES/GRADES
SAT: 2180 ( 800 math, 710 reading, 670 writing).
ACT: 36
SAT Math level 2: 770
SAT Chemistry: 760
SAT Physics: -- Going to take.
I am in top 10%
My Current unweighed GPA is 3.73 (based off a 100 point scale meaning: 4.0 x Grade average%)
My Current weighed GPA is 3.91 (I havent taken any APs, and orchestra/spanish are 1.0)
Plan on taking SAT Physics.
Plan on taking 4 AP Math-related courses, 2 AP Science, 1 AP History, 1 AP English, and AP Music Theory

OTHER
- I have over 100 hours of community service. Specifically I go to the middle school after Highschool and assist the orchestra, I teach guitar to younger children (aunts and uncles girl scout and boy scout troops) , and I teach basic Music Theory and Cello to kids over the summer in a program called “Simply Strings.” Also, several hours of volunteer work in my youth group.
- I am first chair cello in school orchestra and a community orchestra. I also play cello in Philadelphia Sinfonia.
- I am President of Tri-M, and orchestra. VP in Science fair and Math club. I am also a leader in FCA. I am captain of a recreational soccer team for 6 seasons going on for another 4 seasons. I am part of Student Congress, FBLA, and Model UN. I received an invitation for National Honors Society (find out junior year if I made it).
- I compete in science fair. I have been doing it for 5 years. I plan on doing it for 2 more years. I gotten really close to going to International Science Fair twice (I got honorable mention overall in 10th grade, and 3rd overall in 6th-8th grade).
- In my opinion, I am very optimistic, creative, and a perfectionist. I stick to my morals and will not force my views on anyone.
* I DO have a few family & friend connections to UPenn.

What should I work on????????? I have 2 more years left to make it the best.

P.S. You can be as brutal as you want.

maybe more business/math related achievements would be nice… like math competitions (amc and aime) as well as deca competitions … nice job on the act btw, that would help you a lot imo, seeing as you’re still a sophomore.

one thing though, if you really wanna go to wharton you should probably spell the name of it correctly :B

LOLOL haha thats funny xD I am a terrible speller…Probs need reread my essays 1000000 times… hah thanks. I did participate in AMCs but didnt do to swell because i didnt move on. xD Thanks for the tip!!

I’d advise you not to submit your SAT, and only submit your ACT. The ACT is literally perfect, while the SAT looks weak in comparison.

With that being said:

U Penn Wharton: Reach

Your perfect ACT bolsters everything. You have a relatively low unweighted GPA, and your extracurriculars have little to do with your intended major. You seem to be most involved with music related extracurriculars, which you seem to not want to go into. I’d advise you to go with more math/business related extracurriculars. Keep doing well/ leading Math team, and try to do the same with FBLA. I just saw that you are a sophomore, in which case I’d say keep up the A’s to improve the unweighted GPA. If U Penn has ED or EA, go with that, to make admission more likely.

Chance back?

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1504043-new-member-looking-chances.html</a></p>

I think it’s a little late for math competitions and DECA considering most of the action for those two happens after college apps are due. Your ECs are a little weak especially considering that they’re a little random and your GPA is low but your standardized testing (ACT) is fantastic. I think for you it’ll be a real toss-up for you based on the strength of your essays and recs. I still think Wharton is a high reach for you; definitely look at other universities you can attend for math and business.

Chance me back? [Chance the New Guy! Penn, Harvard, Chicago and More!!](http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1509778-chance-new-guy-penn-harvard-chicago-more-will-chance-back.html)

I do believe UPenn has ED/EA. thanks debater1996.

Thank you slamdunkz, but I am still a sophomore. :stuck_out_tongue: I will look into deca and try it. xD

haha i do know I dont have strongest application, but doesn’t hurt to try xD

Oh! I didn’t even notice that you were a sophomore. My bad! Then in that case I have 2 suggestion: commit to 1 or 2 ECs that will help you on the way toward strengthening your application (if you’re interested in DECA, really spend time on it; it takes a lot of work to become good at role plays or write good national level papers) and find something REALLY notable to do during the summer after your junior year such as an internship or selective program at a university. Best of luck and sorry about the misunderstanding!
