I was talking with my old guidance counselor today and she went to Upitt. I told him I was applying to some of the top business schools like Upenn, Tepper, and Stern. She said that Upitt business would be a good choice for me too and told me that their program is on par with the likes of those three schools. I was a bit skeptical and I tried to look up their postgraduate survey info but I can't find it online anywhere. Does anyone know how good Upitt business places or gets recruited and stuff? Is it tier 1 or what?

Your guidance counselor is wrong.

usnews 2006 best undergrad business programs:

40-Pitt 3.3

I think Pitt's a good school but not of the same calibre as the others.

I'll have to agree with 2331clk though it is quite a good school.

I just finished responding to a thread with this reply so I'll just post it again:

The best Wall Street companies are Lehman Brothers, Merill Lynch, JP Morgan, Goldman Sachs, and the prestigious CGI-AMS in NOVA. According to that link, Tepper sends the most kids to IBM (5), JP Morgan (5), Merill Lynch (4), Lehman Brothers (4), and CGI (3-All Consultants). What does that tell you? Taking out IBM (which is pretty good too) you basically have Tepper sending the MOST kids to the BEST Wall Street companies. These companies are the "modes" for Tepper and every other company shows up less often than these. http://www.studentaffairs.cmu.edu/c...y/salary/ba.pdf

Carnegie Mellon is constantly ranked high for job recruitment such as "Hottest College to get a Job" and "Most Improved School" and "Recruiters's Fav". http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/5626574/site/newsweek/

Unfortunately I do not Upitt has such a reputation and is not on par with Wharton, Stern or Tepper.

UPitt isnt up there with those schools, although along with Temple, it's another solid Bus. school thats underrated and from our great state of Pennsylvania.

oh and i meant "her" not "him" haha. thx for all the replies. hey 2331 is there a link for the whole ranking? i can only see the top 3 or something, how did u see upitt on there

Pitt has good business. There isn't much of a difference in business recruitment outside of the top 15 schools (whidh I don't agree with US News on). It will land you a good and well paying job, and if you work hard enough there, a very good job.

Pitt is ranked #50 by Businessweek for undergraduate business programs.

i know of quite a few very successful pitt business grads. i agree with a2wolves6. if you work hard and get a pitt degree you will have manyt opportunities.

Depends on if you want to work in PA or what. Regionally it is a pretty good school but you'll have to work a bit harder for Wall Street and the like. Anything is possible though but to answer your original question it is still not on par with Wharton/Tepper/Stern.

Let's be serious though. sure some kids can get good jobs but that isn't what makes a school good. I agree with 2331clk. Stern's like 1000x better than Upitt.

I don't see how you can even compare a top 50 vs the Top 5.

Oops, I meant top 40 Us News.
