@Jonsmom14 , it will generally come later. Our merit letter took a while. I believe they are reviewed weekly and sent on a rolling basis through March. Good luck!
Finally get to post on this thread!
Full tuition scholarship w/ Chancellorās invite & honors college eligibility (applied as a Linguistics major in Arts and Sciences)
36 ACT, 3.92 UW, OOS, 4 AP classes prior to Senior Year, will graduate with 8 APs total (generally top schedule at my school)
Email acceptance 11/20, scholarship letter received today but dated 12/07
I cried when I saw the letter. I finally know that I am for sure going to college with an option that is financially viable
Definitely took a lot of anxiety off as I wait for more decisions to keep rolling in.
Congratulations! Iām so happy for you! Wonderful scholarship!
@ Jonsmom14 . S stats were
SAT 1550 - Math 790, R 760
4.5 W GPA , Lots of AP
Good luck !
Thought Iād repost here in case people want more data points (I posted in the big Pitt applicants thread over a month ago)
Full tuition to Dietrich with 35 ACT, 96/100 unweighted GPA, OOS.
Accepted on 9/13, received merit on 11/10 and received a Chancellorās invite. I had 2 other friends with similar GPAs/scores that also received the same exact scholarship (both OOS too).
I will update all with Chancellorās info if I receive any (I sure hope I will!). Chancellorās = 3 week application period so I had to submit mine in late November.
@LushLillies fantastic stats, well deserved scholarship. Best of luck on Chancellors. My daughter submitted hers around the same time as you, fingers crossed for all. Is Pitt your #1 choice?
Woo hoo! DD received her merit award today! 10k a year and Chancellors invite! Dietrich School 1540 SATs, 3.9 uw, 4.2 w GPA, school does not rank, thought her essays were stellar.
Accepted 11/7, GAP and Honors College letters 11/14. We are instate.
Best of luck to everyone waiting to hear!
Conrats @mom4bear! Excellent stats and best of luck on Chancelloers!
I cant help to ask, but what is going on with Pittā¦ Some students gets a full ride and some with similar stats get $10Kā¦ I would think those scores would get these students close to free ride at highly competitive schools or close to instate tuition at some OOS. I wish they were more transparent in how they go about awarding these merit scholarships.
@Boomer1964 agreed. It would be really nice to see what they are looking at. It really canāt be ECs since there literally is no place for that on the app and you have to sum them up in the short essays.
Itās not necessarily the essays. I mean doesnāt every kid think they wrote āamazing essays.ā
I think demonstrated interest IS more of a thing than Pitt will admit. I also wonder about known rigor of the high school maybe?
Adding another piece to the puzzle: S18 (35 ACT, 3.5 gpa, in-state) got $5,000 per yer. Not mind-changing money but it did help take a bit of the sting off an ED denial.
@emw344 I received a $15K/year scholarship with an SAT of 1330 and 4.35 gpa. I am ranked 6/533 in my class.Premed neuroscience/biochem major
Figured I would post my stats and merit scholarship for prospective studentsā curiosity (I also posted in the decision thread):
I applied 8/31, received an acceptance letter 9/13, and received a scholarship letter 11/6.
I received a full tuition scholarship and an invitation to apply for Chancellorās.
Admitted to Dietrich for Biological Sciences
W GPA: 94.020
ACT: 34 (36 English, 34 Reading, 34 Science, 33 Math)
SAT: 1490 (780 English+Reading, 710 math)
Class Rank: N/A
7 APs ( 4s on Biology & World History, 5s on Language & Comp and APUSH, rest are TBD)
Iām OOS from NY, I have a lot of ECs and volunteer hours.
Iāve noticed that my academic credentials arenāt nearly as impressive as others who have received full tuition (or applicants who received less merit) so I think that just goes to show how important the short answer questions are in the scholarship selection and just how holistic Pittās admissions process is.
Pitt is my first choice by far and I committed as soon as I got the letter. Iād love to answer any questions!! Good luck to all of you in your application processes:)
@oliviags22 Congratulations! Your credentials are awesome and Pitt is fortunate to have you. All scholarship recipients are so accomplished. What a great group if everyone goes to Pitt like you!
My son received $5k scholarship with a 1530 SAT and 4.22 WGPA. Tons of honors classes and 7 APās. Answered the short answer questions with very thoughtful responses -Pitt is one of his top three schools. Or it was, anyway. We are OOS. $5k doesnāt make a dent in COA for him. So disappointed. I thought his stats would get him more $$.
@frustratedad āwhat was his UW GPA and rank? Seems like those are the two things they go on along with the test score.
@frustratedad Pitt has been all over the map on merit. I am sorry your son didnāt get more merit. Just remember that pitt allows you to submit a cost analysis. So if your son gets better packages elsewhere and his heart is set on Pitt, definitely submit the form and perhaps theyāll bump that amount.
Thanks for the info @AmyBeth68. I guess thatās worth a shot. He is in-state at U of Illinois, and was accepted. Great school, but 34,000 undergrads. Likes the size of Pitt.
My son got his merit award todayā10K per year. He had a 35 ACT, 1530 SAT with 800 math, weighted GPA of 4.05 out of 5.0 with pronounced upward trend (4.3 last year and higher this year). No ranking but heās in the top quartile of a very competitive NJ high school. Leader of many clubs and great community service. Hasnāt seen Pitt but his interest is piqued.
I agree that this merit awarding process is quite confusing. All of my high-achieving friends and I received the full tuition + Chancellorās Inviteā¦even though many with the same scores are getting $5,000 or $10,000. Iām not really sure what affects itā¦
In terms of demonstrated interest, I have never visited Pitt, but I attended the college fair at my school 2 years in a row and talked to the Pitt rep, asked questions, emailed the Pitt rep for my region a few times. I also submitted my application VERY early (first day) which may have shown interest, my short answers were okay, mainly just about my ECs. One of the friends who received full tuition was accepted ED to an Ivyā¦so her ECs and essays were very good.
Really not sure why some are receiving much less. Thereās definitely room for speculationā¦I really canāt propose anything but am willing to provide the 3 data points I have!
