Upitt merit scholarship results 2022

I think a big part of the merit selection process has been scores. I haven’t seen anyone with a 36 on their ACT on this thread get less than full tuition. Maybe there were a few that got 20k OOS, but still.

Got the merit letter today: 25k/yr + Chancellor’s Invite
OOS, 1580 SAT, 4.1 UW, 5.9 W (my school weights GPA very weirdly)

Question for you:

For those of you invited to interview for Stamps/Nordenberg (Skype interviews are coming up right?) …were you also already notified of your regular academic merit scholarship already? (a parent messaged me and I didn’t know the answer).

Do merit scholarship notifications come via email or snail mail? What about the Stamps/Nordenberg notifications? I just want to make sure we don’t miss anything.

Stamps and Nordenberg interview notifications have already started to go out I believe? Maybe someone here can validate but I’ve had two Stamps/Nord parents message me and they are already scheduling Skype interviews I think. Those may be ongoing or rolling?

Scholarship notifications come via regular mail.

Has anyone heard back yet after submitting Chancellors?

@Mnacttutor my daugher has not heard back about Chancellors.

Assuming that all Chancellors and Stamps/Nordenberg invites have gone out by now. I believe if you look on the website, it’ll say the application period is closed. I’d imagine Pitt is moving into phase 2 of the processes now. Would imagine semifinalists /finalists will be notified in January or February. Then March would be final decisions before April 1. But this is all my conjecture.

I am basing my thinking on time that would be needed for 2nd and 3rd interviews before April. Since these are large scholarships, I don’t think it’s just 1 interview. Any knowledge out there?

But that deadline does not make sense as 12/15 was the application deadline for scholarships and the 12/15 applicants have not received admission or scholarship information yet.

You have a good point, @mclmom. I am just hypothesizing.

@Winky1 I can only speak for Chancellor’s but those initial invites are rolling. Last year there were some who popped in and announced a Chancellor’s invite in January.

The invitations to interview are also rolling. They will send out “you’re invited to interview” emails in batches along with the dreaded “you’re done but thanks for playing” snail mail letters. They will interview a few a week all the way through April.

Chancellor’s scholarships only have one interview day on campus. The ones who interviewed are usually notified within 2-3 weeks either way. They will be notified even though there are still kids who haven’t even interviewed yet.

Wow, that’s good info. @carachel2 . I think my thinking was way off.

And on Chancellor’s I may actually be wrong. Just checked Pitt website and they suggested apply early as all the invites were out in early December last year. Our kid may have waited too long by applying 12/15 … or not make the cut anyway, I suppose we may never know!

For those of you with kids invited to interview here are some tidbits:

-you travel to Pittsburgh and stay on your own dime.
-the Wyndham gives a generous discount for Chancellor’s interviewees, just ask
-as a parent, you really don’t need to be there. If your kid has travelled on their own, they can do this.
-those who interview but don’t get the scholarship do NOT get a single dime more (this is a myth perpetuated in previous posts but I wanted to point this out early in the game as lots will have false hope) unless it comes from a cost analysis.

@carachel2, where on the website is the cost analysis? I admit I haven’t looked but thought you might know.

We have not heard re Chancellors yet either. My DD received her letter with nomination 12/14, dated 12/10 with the 3 week application due date. She submitted 12/27 I think. Good luck to everyone waiting!

What is required to be submitted for the Chancellor’s scholarship?

@mclmom you submit your application with the short answer essays and the school will let you know if you are nominated to apply further. ACT 33 and top 2-5% are the minimum stats to get your foot in the door.

@carachel2 Thank you - i was wondering what you are asked to submit beyond the regular application and essays. Thanks!
