HI I'm a high school senior and I'm wondering if anyone got into the 0-6 Pharmacy program. Is it tough and as good as the US News says it is? Is it hard to maintain a good GPA? And for those who got in, what SAT/ACT/GPAs and other credentials did you have to get accepted?

Thanks.

I got into the guarantee program, i got a 2050 on the SATs. 1380 for reading and math and 690 on math. Top three percent in my high school class so i had all the requirements for the guarantee. I just finished my first year of pre-req classes and with a decent amount of studying was able to get a 4.0 both semesters. I spent a lot of time rowing for pitt crew, went out on the weekends and still had plenty of time to study for classes. A 3.25 gpa isnt ridiculously hard to maintain.

Pitt’s pharmacy school is pretty prestigious. I’m not in the school yet but admissions has always assisted me whenever I’ve asked them a question.

My advice is if you can get the guarantee, Pitt is a great choice, the requirements to maintain the guarantee arent that difficult and it is a well respected pharmacy school.

I am going to be a freshman this year and I got into the 6 year program too. I think if you have a decent GPA and a pretty good ACT/SAT score then you will be fine. I got a 34 on the ACT and they just converted it proportionally to an SAT score. I graduated top ten at my high school of 450-ish students and… other things… Well I was the editor-in-chief of my school’s newspaper and I was captain of Science Olympiad. I applied to over 12 schools and I choose PITT because it’s pharmacy program is great and I loved it when I visited. I can’t wait to start! :)

And sk82gr8, what activities did you join freshman year that is related to the pharmacy program? Also, did you do any internships at the pharmacies or shadow? I guess…just wondering what I should do freshman year to better prepare myself. Thanks!

Giraffodil, i would highly recommend joining Rx prep. It’s a pre-pharmacy club run by students in pharmacy school and it’s goal is to help pre-pharm kids through the admissions process and bring in speakers to explain aspects of pharmacy. It’s a very nice idea and it’s not too demanding of a club. Here is their link [Home Page](http://www.pitt.edu/~sorc/rxprep/Meetings%20&%20Minutes.html)

There is also SnPhA (pronounced Snapha). It’s basically a pharmacy volunteer club. Besides these two clubs, the rest of the pharmacy clubs are for pharm students only. I would also recommend joining other clubs (club sports, volunteer, political etc) I found that i really had a passion for rowing after i joined the pitt rowing club and it shows that you’re interested in a wide variety of activities.

As for research, there is a great opportunity for freshman to do undergraduate research called first experiences in research (dont worry, you’ll definitley be made aware of this opportunity before second semester). You might be able to find a project pharmacy related or more likely something that deals with a drug’s effect on mice or something to that extent.

Besides that, the only other thing I would recommend is getting your foot in the door to pharm school by occasionally meeting with the pharm school admissions counselors if you have any concerns or questions. They can help you plan things out and are very friendly and willing to offer help if you need it.

Hope this helped, Pitt’s a great school with lots of opportunities so i’m sure you’ll find what works for you!

Awesome! Thank you sk82gr8!

Thank you sk82gr8! I’ll definitely keep that in mind! :)

giraffodil, with your 34 ACT, did Pitt give you any scholarship money? Are you in-state or OOS? Best of luck at Pitt!

I am also entering Pitt as a pre-pharm freshman with the pharmacy guarantee this year. I had a 1470 on the SAT with a 670 on math and I was in the top 6% of my class. Pitt was my first choice and I can’t wait to go!

hey lurknessmonster. yep i got the full tuition which i was grateful for. and i’m OOS. thanks! OH and the earlier you apply, the better chances you have at getting into the pharmacy guarantee and receiving the better scholarships!

That’s great. Congrats! Enjoy your time at Pitt!

@giraffodil: you got full tuition at Pitt? Wow congrats! Around what time did you apply and what was your GPA?

thanks. i applied around mid october and i heard from them within 6 weeks. i had a 3.99 unweighted i think? (our school was on a 12.0 system so…i just divided by 3.)
