UPitt vs Rutgers NB vs Drexel Pre-Med

OK so i'm between these three schools and I have no idea which one one to go to. Im from NJ so, Pitt and Drexel are out of state. I have some pros and cons for each, if someone has any experience or advice, i would really appreciate it

Pitt Pro: Nice Campus, alot of volunteer and research opportunities, accredited med school. I know that i will have a lot of opportunities there and have a chance of standing out as a student.high acceptance for students applying to med school (68% compared to rutgers's 58% and Drexel's 50%)

Pitt Con: 6 hours away (im really close with my family). its out of state, so tuition is a bit higher

Rutgers Pro: Campus is ok. has a 7 year med program that I can apply to wo mcats in my junior year. has good research ( but its hard to get research positions as young undergrad). I will have a good social life

Rutgers Con: too many people (you cant make yourself known or standout). The campus is HUGE. not alot of places outside of Rutgers to volunteer or research-- I only have the resources that rutgers offers ( 2 hospitals and their research). basically my entire school goes there.

Drexel Pro: STARs Program, Coops, close to home, alot of opportunities to volunteer and research (its in philly).

Drexel Con: expensive. the campus is ok.

If you can apply to med school without MCAT at Rutgers, it trumps everything. In addition, it is lot cheaper In State.
If you want be in med school you need have good grades in each of the school, that requires hard work and dedication. So, if everything is equal, the cheaper UG and not requiring MCAT is the way to go. What your list of “CONS” should not stop a student that is dedicated to become a MD.

Nice campus? does it even have a campus?

anyway…those acceptance rates mean little to nothing. They have NOTHING to do with YOU…at all. Pitt isnt doing anything that causes it to have a higher or lower acceptance rate, except that it may weed more harshly.

Going to rutgers does NOT mean that YOU have a 58% chance of being admitted to a med school.

Rutgers is likely the best choice.

Upitt is large too, right? how is rutgers too big?

Unless you go to an affluent school or a school close enough to commute, I highly doubt that nearly everyone from your HS goes to Rutgers.

Pitt does have a nice campus but it is urban and mixed with other things like hospitals, restaurants, hotels. To each their own. Pitt’s options for shadowing, volunteering and research are really key, the hospitals are right there on “campus” and I can personally say when they tell you those options are there for you, they are telling the truth. We are also in NJ and the 6 hr drive is a long one but I feel like we made the right choice and my kids there (I have 2 at Pitt, one BME and one ChemE) have had opportunities that I am not sure they would have anywhere else. Pitt has 25K students whereas Rutgers NB has 31.5K. Albeit they are both huge, one is more huge! I think the hugeness of Rutgers is due to the nearly 2000 acre size - compared to Pitt’s 132 acre. What is your COA at each? At the end of the day, you will make the most of wherever you go and whatever your opportunities are, but to afford med school, you really need to find the most affordable undergraduate school. Good luck with your choice!
