I have a mac and microsoft office 2008 for it. I wrote my essay in word and saved it as a .doc and a .docx file. When I upload either one it doesn't show up in the preview.

try copy/pasting the test into an email, email yourself, go onto a pc and put it in a word file there.

See if that works?

that works. I tried it before. But I don’t have access to a PC at the moment.

fixed. with help from commonapp.

here’s my copy and paste:

My text disappears after I upload my essay.
There are several reasons this occurs.

Sometimes the specific font will cause this to happen. You might try uploading your essay in a different font.

We have seen this issue when the Mac version of Word is used to upload the file. You can try to upload the file as a DOC instead of DOCX. Or, try saving the file, then renaming it to ShowDocs.PDF. This will then allow you to view the document. At times, MACs will not bring up the Adobe Reader with the document showing, instead it brings up a dialog box where you can save, open or cancel. Choose open and the file should open with your web browser. Choose Save, rename the file and view.

We have also seen this issue when Adobe is corrupt. If you have Adobe Acrobat and Adobe Reader installed, you do not need both and should remove Reader. If you just have Adobe Reader, please remove it, reboot your computer, then reinstall it.

If none of the above work, here’s the next thing to try:

launch Adobe Acrobat
go to the Edit menu option and select Preferences
in the left hand Preferences menu, click on Internet. Make sure that the Display PDF in Browser checkbox is checked. If not, check it and click on OK.
again in the Preferences menu, click on Trust Manager. In the middle of the page, click on the Change Settings button.
In the middle of the new screen that opens, type in https://schoolforms.commonapp.org/ into the field and click on the Allow button.
Click on OK.
In both cases, if you have a browser open, please be sure to restart your browser after following the steps above to make sure that the latest settings are incorporated into your browser session.

Lastly, try the “print preview” button to check the upload instead of viewing the document where it was uploaded.
