I conducted an independent history research project of my own. Is this something I should upload to my portal? And, if I do, should I add a page in which I describe the paper?
No. No one wants to read the project. List is as an EC if you did it under supervision of a professor or if it was accepted to some sort of conference or publication otherwise this sounds like a nice hobby.
