"And about the app.. I have 2 parts still. The activities sheet and the essay. For some reason, I feel as if I need to keep holding them. I'm getting rid of those asap this week."

Perfectionism hindered me too, untill I found myself at a weak point and just told myself "just get these done and in, I have an LOA, and I dont want to blow it" I think I did the Essays at 2:00 am, with a rough draft I had written and rewritten over 4 times. I got some inspiration listening to some patriotic music and began the writing process. It felt good to get them done, then I scanned it and sent it to my admissions officer and then mailed it. The Activities sheet I worked on with my councelor over a 2 week period calling my admissions officer periodically to ask questions. I did this because then I knew that my councilor would be able to prove that I had done the activities. My transcripts do not reflect all that I have done, so I was checking and rechecking what I was taking credit for. My suggestion is that you make a copy of the blank, fill it out, then check it with your councilor and then transfer it and Fax it and then mail it.

Candidates are not present for the file review. If you receive an appointment you may want to take advantage of the visit. Academic year is a bit different from SLS and you will be able to experience West Point from a different perspective.

Not for your file to be reviewed by the board - however when you go for a candidate visit the officer of the day will sit down with you and your parents and discuss your file with you.
This is a great chance to get one on one feedback from an officer in the admissions department.

However, this is not the only reason for a candidate visit - momoftwins is correct - the academic year is different from SLS. You will spend your time with a plebe, go to class, see the barracks, eat in Washington Hall with the brigade. All of this will help you to gauge if West Point is right for you.

All LOA recipients and those candidates offered appointments are offered an overnight visit and are highly encouraged to take advantage of the opportunity. It is a very different experience from SLS (especially if you go in the winter :)). After the overnight visit candidates are able to sit down with an admissions officer and go over their file. We found that this was a bit late in the game - our son's file was already complete by this point.
However, I believe that any candidate can arrange a day visit. If you live near WP this may be worthwhile and will give candidates the opportunity to review their file with an admissions officer. Admissions officers are usually very responsive to e-mail questions if candidates have questions about their file.

mom3boys - and Ann - yep those with LOA's and appointment may schedule an overnight visit.

Any candidate may schedule a day visit - right now all visits are suspended until January.

You Juniors out there applying for SLS - once you apply that opens a candidate file and you may schedule a day visit - Spring of your Junior year which would be a great time to go! We went in early April and there were quite a few HS Juniors in the group.

Since I didnt get to visit at all yet, am I able to go for the day visit, and then the next day start an overnight visit, to span 3 days? I have the LOA, and I do fall under the "any Candidate". Are they essentially the same, or would it be a good idea to get both tours? (in my case, back-to back, because I'm from WI, not near the NY area.)

That sounds redundant. You'd get the whole thing in the overnight...I don't see that you need to do both. My s went on a recruiting weekend, and they had arranged for the admissions rep to meet with them, same as if you go. I think w/ finals, and holidays there are no more overnights until January.

yeah it is redundant - here is how it works -

everyone shows up at Thayer at 8 am. They give parents and kids a little talk and then call out the kids when their plebes show up.
Parents then get to talk to an upperclassman. All the officers leave and it is just parents and a cadet with the door closed. This was very impressive and our cadet was forthright and honest in every respect.
Then the parents get a tour. We ate lunch and then met our daughter after lunch - and sat with the officer of the day... we were done by about 2 ish.

The overnight candidates - then go with their overnight bag and say good bye to mom and dad until the next morning.

I don't think you can schedule a day visit until Jan either and you must schedule at least 2 weeks in advance.

I sure wish I'd have been able to go... ATTENTION ALL JUNIORS: Learn from my mistake, dont miss out on the SLS, take your standardized tests early and take them often!!! I missed the PSAT. I found out about the SLS in February, and I didnt have any test scores to submit!! Then scheduled for the April ACT's, but that's too late. Too bad they didnt take ASVAB scores.... or state standardized scores... or any other form of validification.
