Hey there. To anyone that has already transfered or knows anything about upper-division work.

In CC we have the IGETC to fulfill. I know that all our lower division/gen ed is taken care of at the CC level. Does that mean once we get to a UC there is nothing left but major requirements and electives?

Nope, you may still have other lower div requirements to complete. For example UCSD has a bunch of stupid requirements depending on which of their colleges you get placed into. In my case I am doing engineering at Cal. I have to take 6 humanities classes. Two of them have to be upper division, so I have to take those at Cal. But the other 4 I was able to complete through my CC course work. Also there are lower division courses that are not offered at my CC that are required for my major. So I am taking a class this coming fall that most people take as a freshman.

Yeah I can understand that. Like if your CC didn’t offer your prereqs.

But what I am asking really is, (and I suppose it is kind of a dumb question) But let’s say hypothetically I go to Cal and my major is Anthropology. I have completed all my prereqs and are good to go for the major. I have completed IGETC so all my gen ed stuff is done (english, math, humanities, soc science, science/lab, ect)

What I am wondering is if all of those are completed, are there any other types of courses required? something similar to an IGETC or any more kind of general education classes required by the school? Or do I just have to take my last 7 Anthro courses and fill the rest with whatever electives/classes I decide I want to take?

At Berkeley, there’s an American Cultures requirement that you will have to fulfill after transferring (unless you attend a CC that offers AC courses).

Also UCSD colleges have their own “GE” classes that you will have to take regardless of whether you complete IGETC.
