Okay, just how bad are the courses that are designated as Upper Level Writing Requirement? I'm a decent writer and don't mind doing papers, but I'm a tiny bit concerned about my technical ability. Is what's required in these courses going to need to meet a really high level?

Depends on which one you take. My ULWR class was the easiest A+ I've ever gotten. But I'm guessing most of them require a little more work.

I'm taking CLCIV 464 Ancient Epic. Once I've taken the ULWR should I register for future classes that are designated differently (since I noticed you can check if you want to attempt the ULWR or not).

It doesn't hurt to take a class that's designated as ULWR after you've already done one. Sometimes classes like that will have reduced writing requirements for people who aren't taking it to meet ULWR.

I think the ones in the polsci department are significantly harder because for a polsci major, you have to take at least 6 credits of 400-level+ classes and any 300-level classes that are ULWR count towards those 6 credits. The same probably goes towards history, english, sociology, etc.
