Upperclass dorms??

Anybody have advice/opinions about Ragans, McCollum or Rogers Halls? THANKS!

My older daughter lives in Ragans. She's lived there over several semesters and likes it. Each suite has 4 bedrooms, one per student (lockable) with desk, closet, bed and dresser inside, and two bathrooms - one per two students. There is a living room and full kitchen. Each bedroom room has it's own high-speed Internet connection, which is essential to being a student at Florida State. It's best to have a laptop computer.

It's a super nice dorm. She'll probably continue to stay there. The rent is $2600 per semester, which can be paid in four installments. All utilities are included, except cable TV.

I've been in the McCollum and Rogers a long time ago, but don't have any current info, except to say that kids don't seem to complain about them.

rogers isnt as nice as ragan, where im moving next semester. However, you can get a room by the month, so if you have a strange housing situation that could be good, and i think the rent is pretty cheap. my friend has a double in rogers, theres one bedroom with two beds, a full kitchen, a living room area, and a bathroom with a tub, although its kinda small for him. He seems to like it.

Do you know anything about the efficiencies in McCollum?

I was in the first class to move into Ragan's (when it was just called "New Hall") and it wasn't bad at all. It wasn't as social as other dorms, but I think that's expected in any upper class dorm. Once all the bugs were worked out (fire alarms, no hot water for 24 hours at a time, no laundry facilities for months) it was great! I was proud bringing other students and family into the hall. That was also before there were locks put on the living room windows...

I read on collegeboard that 58% of freshmen (should go up a bit with Wildwood/DeGraff opening 1400 more spots) and 15% of all undergraduate students live on campus. It seems that many move off campus after their freshmen year. We have 2 more semesters of prepaid dorm so the apartment style dorms sound like a good alternative.

Sorry to bump an old thread but it’s the most informative I could find about upperclassmen dorms!

I’ll be living in an efficiency in McCollum Hall next fall and would appreciate some advice on what to bring.

Kitchen: The site says it comes with a kitchen unit. So is that just a a stove, a full-fridge, and some counter space? Is there some place where I can store pots/dishes/silverware or should I bring my own plastic drawers? I plan on cooking for myself, any advice on whether to bring real or plastic plates? I assume their isn’t a dishwasher and am afraid handwashing (and perhaps a drying dish rack?) would be too time-consuming. And is there space for a couple chairs and cardtable or something similar to eat off of? Any advice on how to store dry-foods?

Living Space: I assume this part of the room is where the desk goes. Is the TV cable connector and the Internet port in the bedroom or the living area? Is there room for a TV stand and a big beanbag chair or the like?

Thanks guys!
