Hi!
I'm in a four person group for housing next year as a second year, and we got Copeley. This was our last choice, mostly due to anecdotal evidence. We called the housing office and they said this was the only way they could keep our group together.

So! This is what I've heard:
it smells bad (also smells like mold?)
it's really far and since the buses are unreliable, this is iffy

My questions- is it really that bad? If I'm staying out on Grounds until 1 am some nights for clubs is there a way to get home safe (I'm a girl)? And finally, do you think/know if there's any way to try and get switched into a different section of on grounds housing? We were unassigned for the first round, then today we got this. If we declined this and reapplied, maybe, would that increase our chances of perhaps Bice?

This is obviously not the end of the world, and we're looking into off-grounds housing, too, but thoughts/opinions would be really welcomed!

I would look into off grounds housing, which basically would be closer. The costs for some locations is not much different than on grounds. In fact, I pay less for S1 and 2 now than I did when they lived on grounds. And, yes, it is nicer.

saferide will get you home safe.
Copeley’s biggest problem is that it’s far. Unless you can find housing off grounds closer than that, you don’t really have a reason to switch. I used the buses to get from JPJ/U-Hall to class every day for a semester and they’re reliable in the morning (I was living up near Target during my student teaching until graduation). It’s at night that things start to get wonky (I used the bus to get my groceries from emmet/ivy back to brown college and half of the time the bus would not show up). The GPS bus tracker on your phone if it still works is helpful. You can always drive and pay $$$ to park in the bookstore if you’re running late. That’s how people who live off grounds make that work. You’ll get some good exercise when the bus doesn’t show up or you don’t want to wait, it’s not so bad. Especially if there are 4 of you, if you have multiple cars, someone will always be around to shuttle you if you all agree to be on call for shuttling.

Off grounds, look at the JPA area since buses run there too. I don’t feel the housing is any nicer there than Copeley though. You could look at the Corner area but it’s reeeeeally sketchy at 1am so if you are staying out that late I would not live there honestly.

We decided to take Copeley, mainly because buses are close and convenient, like you said. I know they’re sometimes unreliable, and the Northline esp. is bad on game days, but…we’re not finding much better, and the buses really are right there. It’s actually quite nice inside, too (we hassled the poor SR and he let us look at his apartment!) Thanks so much for you help!
