upperdivision science classes necessary?

Are upper-division science classes necessary to be competitive at top medical schools? or are the sole requirements enough? provided that everything else is okay.

I'm asking this because I don't plan on majoring in a science major.

I'd at least use a few extra bio courses, for MCAT/actually being in med school purposes. I'm not sure how they factor into admissions.

bluedevilmike, did you take any upper division classes?

Biology: Microbiology, Physiology, Genetics/Cell Biology.
Physics: Intro physics taken in a seminar designed for physics majors, not premeds
Chemistry: Biochem

thanks....

This is my first post...funnyman, i think you may want to still consider taking some upper division biology courses or maybe genetics or physiology. What do you plan on majoring in?

psychobiology. I think I'll take some. Do these classes factor into admissions? because they can probably be self-learned for the MCAT.

Well, psychobiology is also considered a life science major so the upper division classes will consist of biology, and others that involve psychology as well. Other than that, I don't believe that the upper division courses factor in as much for admissions decisions as much.
