<p>Hi, I'm in the process of filling out the Common App and writing the essays. The topic I intend to write about is #3, the one about describing a person of significant influence to you but I'm not sure if that is a wise choice. My grandfather was very much a great and inspirational man who, unfortunately died in 9/11 (this is integral to my essay as I have learned a lot from this) and I'd love to write about his influence on me. However, I know that 9/11 was a terrible day for us all and even though the essay will ultimately be positive I'm worried that bringing up an upsetting day might not be wise in an App. Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks.</p>
