Hi!!
I am having such trouble finding an uptempo song that isn't overdone/suits me/doesnt have good acting opportunities etc...

Please help!!

Info on me:

soprano-belter
I can belt super high but i DO NOT necessarily have to in the song
I prefer a good ACTING song
I'm good at character songs, as well as dramatic.
they can be either contemporary or pre 1960's

Folks are probably not responding to you because it’s hard to determine songs for someone that they don’t know. Is there someone in your area that can advise you?

(Not sure if I’m allowed to post a .com link, but I’ll try. )

This is an amazing book that all MT students should have under their pillows, IMO:

The New Broadway Song Companion: An Annotated Guide to Musical Theatre Literature by Voice Type and Song Style by David P. DeVenney.

With the above book, which is available on-line, you can find shows listed with all the songs and ranges, lists of songs for sops, belters, duos, etc.

Try to find songs that match your type and your personality if you can. Time is short, however, so don’t be too picky at this point! I remember hearing a prof from a very well regarded MT school saying she’d be glad to hear “I Could Have Danced All Night” if it was very well done.

The problem is of course that it needs to be a song they haven’t heard a bajillion times, but the accompanist has to be comfortable playing it. And we have to be comfortable TELLING the accompanist how to play it.
I’m a teacher/coach at South Coast Rep, and I’d rather see a song I know done well, than a song i’ve never heard of that gets mangled in the production.
