1st sem: 3.15
2nd sem: ~3.9
then I'm going to a CC
If I keep a 3.85+ say for summer (2 classes) , fall (4), winter (3-4), spring quarters (4)
Whats the best schools (not limited to UC's) I would be able to get in as my avg GPA would be low due to the 3.15 :x for finance or econ
With IGETC & no TAP.

First school choices: ucla econ
berk econ
usc finance
santa clara finance
Any others I would have a good shot at strictly gpa wise?
Thanks

What’s your overall GPA? Overall GPA is probably more important than an upward trend, but a upward trend might help you get in if your borderline.

Well then is he even considered a CC to UC transfer? Dont they consider you as a transfer from a 4 year - cap your max units allowed and usually you can not do any of the agreements b/c they require for most of the units to be from CC

Ok if i were you as a back up i would sign guranteed admission agreements with the other UCs - if you are ok with going to say UCSD just in case.

IGETC doesnt give you an edge in admissions- it just helps you with general education. If someone else satisfied the GE req another way they are still just as likely to get accepted.

If UCLA is your top choice than you need to do TAP- that is the ONLY thing that may help you.

UCLA econ is
a. Impacted
b. usually admits with pretty high gpa- i dont remember the exact number but i am certain it is above 3.6
c. UCLA likes to see you overcoming some sort of difficulty or hardships or family situation as a transfer- and then they also consider your employment- how strong are those areas of your application. (those things are considered b4 your ECs based on what i noticed)

Definitely. I will sign with UCSD and Santa Clara (good silicon valley private school)
I really don’t have a top choice; just looking to get in any good school I can and most of the pre-reqs are the same for every college.
I agree with TAP for UCLA; due to my schedule TAP would be very hard to do as I have 1 more year to complete everything:
All of TAP (since I was at a CSU) which is 6 hard courses and would complete IGETC at the same time, along with 6 more pre-reqs :x
hmm I’ve had a PT job since June 2006, no internships though, going to take summer classes and maybe try to get another PT job
Thanks for the input! I’m still debating whether to do TAP or not
If there’s even one class that isn’t offered for TAP at the right time, my whole year’s schedule could be thrown off :/

Yeah. For me, it was all about time management, which a lot of students tend to flip out over, including me for a bit. I had about six extra research papers to do on top of regular hw, but it really isn’t that bad if you pace yourself. I’m serious. :O

Irene told me I had to get all of TAP done in one semester as well. I decided not to do it and just stood on my grades/GPA/personal statement alone. Got into Cal and UCLA both ftw.

But yeah, if I knew from the start of the semester that I had to get it all done (I didn’t talk to her about it until at least halfway through) I would have ended up doing it.

My friend got into UCLA too without any TAP backing her up. I guess some people are just awesome that way. I really had to stay on the ball from beginning to end during last fall semester. I had already spent a quarter at UCI and then returned to CoC in hopes of going to UCLA, hence my last minute attempt at TAP. Irene helped me a lot, that awesome lady. Regardless if it made a difference in my admissions or not, I’m glad I did it. It taught me how to do a lot of work in a small amount of time. :D

But also TAP would probably hurt my GPA if anything and only UCLA really cares about TAP (I know berk econ acknowledges it, but u don’t get priority admissions or anything)
Its a tough decision and also the CC’s here at quarter system; which could make cramming TAP harder (correct me if I’m wrong) but I do believe that Foothill operates on MW TuTH 2hr classes even though its quarter.

Not so much challenging as just a lot of work…if you do what I did and do it all in one semester. TAP courses at my CC were courses that were transferable, basically anything on IGETC. It’s extra work in the selected classes and it all really depends on the teacher. And you have to make sure the teacher cooperates. I remember my Sociology teacher kept forgetting to turn the required forms in so I just wound up doing it for her. So nerve racking. The projects were relative also: some teachers will demand a twenty page thesis from you while another will say “Yeah just…do an extra hw assignment or something.”

I’m pretty sure some CCs differ in how one completes TAP or their honors program. That’s jut how mine rolled. Hope this answers you, jfk.
