Upward trend in senior year

Basically, I got Bs in hard courses and As in easy courses last year. But, if as a senior, I got straight As in hard courses, and my school has 1st term grades, will colleges see upward trend? Or, is it too late?

Depends if you're going ED anywhere. If you do, the last grades colleges will have will be your junior year, and that could hurt. But, if you go RD, you can send colleges your upward trend grades before Christmas and they'll factor that into their decision. Basically, it is probably too late if you're goind ED anywhere. Otherwise, it's not too late for RD.

What if my guidance counselor tells college in his letter that I am improving dramatically? I forgot to mention that I got straight As in my first two years, but something happened last year that inferred with my academic performance. He told me that he will include this situation in his letter to allay my fears. Will colleges understand or look frown upon it? If you are wondering, I rather not tell you because I am a little embarrassed about it.

Selective colleges all request that your mid-year senior grades are sent to them. They won't really look at them for auto-accepts and auto-denies. For everyone else, it varies. Some colleges do not consider the application complete until they have received the mid-year report. Other colleges will only go into the mail room and look for it in the cases of borderline cases. An upward trend will help you. Having your GC mention it would be very good. Try to give you GC a reason why there was a dip in grades so that he/she can include it in his/her rec.
