Upward trends

How much do upward trends help applicants when applying to schools? My teachers and parents are telling me since I have improved so much academically that it will look really good for colleges... however my cumulative GPA won't be that great so I am wondering how much it actually helps. My freshman year I have a sub 3.0 gpa my sophmore year it was a 3.0 and so far this year it is in the 3.3-3.6 range while taking 3 honors classes out of 5.

It will help, but the cumulative GPA and rank is more important.

yeah i know but like it should help me considerably right?

Yes, generally speaking, it will help you. However, you have to take into account what kind of colleges you're applying to. In a selective college with many students who have near-perfect academic records, you'll obviously be weaker no matter how much you improve. However, at a less selective school, it will help you a lot more.

The upward trend is very helpful on applications. Good luck!
