Urban and Regional Planning transfer question

Cal Poly Pomona is one of my top choice schools in terms of transferring, but lately I’ve been reading a lot of negative things about the school. What kind of reputation does the Environmental Design department have at Cal Poly Pomona, and what’s the Urban and Regional Planning department like? Would you say it is better than SLO’s because Pomona is surrounded by the inland empire, and close to LA, or would you say its irrelevant. I am applying to Davis for the same major but it has a different name, would you say that Pomona is better than Davis too? Please respond ASAP. Thank you!

Here’s a link to the Wikipedia page for the college of environmental design.

Cal Poly Pomona would be a way better choice than UC Davis and about the same as Cal Poly SLO for Urban Planning. First of all, at CPP, the department is within a college of Environmental Design where at UC Davis, it’s at the college of Agriculture. As you can imagine, most urban planner work closer with architects, landscape architects and designers than with farmers. Second of all, the college at CPP is headed by Michael Woo, who’s a kick ass politician/ personality/ planner in the Los Angeles area. Lately, he’s been pushing for other departments to work closer with the URP department and he’s been bringing a bunch of policy makers from the big city to have talks and teach. Being in a city as big, diverse and complex as LA should be a huge plus for someone wanting to study urban planning. UC Davis is rural, not urban.

CPP has been ranked as one of the top public Urban Planning programs in the country. I don’t believe UC Davis was even mentioned.

Wow, great answer! It sounds like it would be a true blessing to study at CPP. I have no idea why people would talk low about the school. All I can hope for now is that I get accepted!

there are only 2 undergrad accredited programs for Urban planning in cali. guess which other cal poly is accredited. :)
