Urban Campuses with a "Wow" Factor

I just visited Duquesne Univ. and it was spectacular. It is perched on a hill overlooking Pittsburgh. Many of the buildings were impressive as well. Most of the the other urban campuses I've seen seem to blend together with the surrounding buildings, with no real sense of a campus. Forgetting about academics for a minute, what other urban campuses are considered beautiful?

University of Pennsylvania........Philly

Columbia University truly has one of the GREAT, if not GREATEST urban campus in the United States.

Loyola Marymount and U San Francisco are both in central urban areas, but feature gorgeous architecture, grassy quads, and lots of sunshine.

For the east coast, I second the recommendation for Columbia. Also look at Fordham; the Rose Hill campus is really pretty, and not too far from downtown Manhattan.

Rhodes College in Memphis.

UCLA and Berkeley. Both very distinct, while being in an urban environment.

Columbia, Penn, UChicago.

don't forget Barnard, right across the street from Columbia!

Oh, and there's always Wagner (a really cute, woodsy campus with a great view of Manhattan).

I thoroughly hated Penn's campus, and it kept me from even considering applying there.

Vanderbilt University, surrounded by Nashville, one and a half miles from downtown, but you wouldn't know it was an urban campus. Quiet, leafy, easy access to urban amenities (such as coffee shops, restaurant, bookstores), yet separate; definitely a distinct campus feel.

Columbia is greAT

Having spent some time on the Columbia U. campus in Morningside Heights/"West Harlem", I would agree that it is a great place to be. Fordham's campus in Manhattan is in a good location, as well.

Stevens Institute of Technology - on the hill across the river from Manhattan.

while Hartford isn't the most exciting city, it still qualifies, and Trinity College is just gorgeous.

Brown also has a well defined campus in Providence

Rice University in Houston

PennConnects : — Explore The Vision

It's going to get even better for Penn with the eastward expansion.

Johns Hopkins- Homewood is one of the most beautiful college campuses in the US, urban or otherwise. Uniquely positioned as a self-contained traditional campus in, and open to, a major city, with quality of life and safety exceeding other well-known universities mentioned in this post (w/o rt academics).

Columbia University
Georgetown University
University of California-Los Angeles
University of Chicago
University of Pennsylvania
Washington University-St Louis

of the campuses i've seen: Penn, Pitt, and Columbia (Philly, Pittsburgh, NYC, respectively) are tops...
