what are some good urban schools to consider in the northeast. schools that are in and a part of the city. i know NYU and UPENN, but i dont have a chance at those schools. im transferring from a jr college with 60 credits and a 3.7 gpa

You don't have a chance at UPenn - right.

But why don't you think you have a chance at NYU? If you're applying to CAS, I'd say go for it.

ehh NYU doesnt interest me for some reason. im thinking along the lines of boston university perhaps? big city school with a campus as well...

yeah you'd be a good applicant for Boston University as well.

thanks anyone else have suggestions?

Boston: Northeastern University; Suffolk University (not much of a campus, though). Outside the city but within easy public transport range: Brandeis.

New York: Pace University

University of Pittsburgh (it's great!)
Northeastern
Ohio State

If you like Philadelphia, consider Drexel, St. Joseph's and LaSalle. However with a 3.7 GPA over the equivalent of two years' college courses, don't necessarily rule out Penn as long as the courses were reasonably rigorous. Instead, have a talk with their admissions office.

Second Pittsburgh

thanks. st joes is ok, but im not a huge fan of the area...

I suggest Carnegie Mellon (CMU).

CMU is very difficult to transfer into. If he's afraid of considering NYU, CMU is definitely out.

i think id have a SHOT at NYU, but the school doesnt interest me all that much.

Well, CMU is something like 15%. You better have some amazing reasons. ;)

CMU doesnt interest me either. although a friend of mine just got into cornell from my jr college

you don't seem to be interested in all the schools that others have suggested. Why don't you tell us more specific things that you're looking at? What ARE you interested in?

You could try Temple University, its main campus and health sciences campus are located in North Philadelphia. The down side is that Temple U is ridiculously crowded during the day with over 20,000 students.

Since you'll be a transfer student, apply to schools that have your major, and have generous course articulation so you won't have to start over again.

my major is economics. im looking for a nice school (size doesnt matter although not too small) that is near a major metro. city. i think that it would be best if i had a school near a city for networking reasons as well as the social aspect. my friend goes to temple and i visited. it really did not appeal to me either.

ive never visited boston but ive heard some of their universities are nice.

i wouldnt be against a school NEAR a city (20 min. commute)

I would suggest George Washington University in D.C. It's maybe not northern enough for you but it is located in a really great area of Washington and also has a relatively defined campus (not a traditional campus but more defined than NYU). D.C. also offers tons of internships/jobs in economics.

Also, I strongly recommend BU, NYU, New School, and Fordham.

Boston University doesn't really have a campus. If they're not on your "I don't really like" list, you might consider Northeastern, Syracuse, Tufts.

Cornell is not at all urban. So I'm not really sure what you're looking for.

i didnt say cornell interested me, just said that my friend went there...
