Urbana Champaign (UIUC) Vs UC Irvine - Computer Science Major

Nobody said that on campus recruiting is the only way companies hire. Way to be obtuse. I am making the point that those companies invest heavily into on campus recruiting at the TOP CS schools. They compete for those grads. I also never said that Google ONLY hires from those schools. Again, another poster being obtuse. I have yet to hear anyone explain the discrepancies in pay based on alma mater. I guess that’s an inconvenient question to answer.

An individual company not differentiating pay by UG school is not the same as different companies targeting different schools with different pay rates.

Some colleges have stronger students who can pass interviews at more selective employers that have higher paying jobs. That is different from claiming that the college itself will cause the same student to find a higher paying job at graduation.

Please show me where I (or anyone) stated that a college itself will cause the same student to find a higher paying job at graduation. You seem to enjoy moving the goalposts and responding to claims that literally nobody made. Well Done! golf claps

I’m not really sure what you mean. Different companies may target different schools for recruiting, but they won’t offer different salaries based on the school. Pay rates for employees within a company are generally set according to the job classification. There’s a little wiggle room to allow for negotiation. But a Silicon Valley company that recruits CS students at Stanford, Berkeley, Santa Clara and San Jose State for the same job isn’t going to offer the Stanford and Berkeley recruits a higher starting salary just because their diploma says Stanford or Berkeley.

Reading is fundamental, ucbalumnus. It is a fact that starting salaries at TOP CS schools are higher than at lower ranked CS schools. Why don’t you explain why that is. Are the student bodies identical at UCB as they are at University of Portland? Why are admissions more selective at TOP CS schools? Is a 4.0/36P the equivalent to a 3.2/29 ACT student at University of Portland?
