As more schools get to a point where the female population becomes 60:40, will they be more willing or lenient to admit males, sort of an under represented gender?

Probably, I would expect as much, sort of like a female applying to a top tech school like MIT and Caltech and such.

or like in my case, a male applying to georgetown nhs which is like 70something percent female... so hopefully that helps me out

In the upcoming US News College Guide there's a big long article about this.

How Do you know?

Just heard a rumor, you're right though, I don't know. I should edit that.

Also see though:
http://www.usatoday.com/news/education/2005-10-19-male-college-side_x.htm

The Dean of admissions at Kenyon wrote an article in the NY Times to all of the young women that she would have to reject because there was a shortage of men and they were seeking more gender balance.

Yeah, my friend who got waitlisted at Davidson [though is going yay for her :D] was told by the dean that were she a male she would have gotten in easy, but since the pool of female applicants was so impressive she was pushed to the middle because apparently there was something like for every one applicant submitted by a male there was about 3 or 4 submitted by a female, absolutely crazy.

This sounds great for the guys that do apply, one because its easier to get in and also when you are there you don't have all those other guys trying to gobble up the hot chicks/

Though I'm not positive I would gander to add that tech schools have more males, LAC's have more females, and national universities have a generally nice balance, though I could very well be wrong about this though it seems reasonable.

Yea thats generally the pattern

Tech=60;40 male
State=45;55 either way
LAC= 60:40 female
Comm. College = 70;30 female.

I hear if you're a male it gives you a huge boost at Sarah Lawrence

being male would give you a boost at colleges like Vassar, Sarah Lawrence and goucher

For the most part, being male will never help you in an application

Really, I'm surprised because I thought women were significantly leading in the pack of gender more likely to pursue a college education, but hmmm

Being male is a tip factor now at most colleges except for things like engineering schools, which are rare in that more males than females apply. It's particularly advantageous to be male when applying to LACs and to schools such as nursing schools and education schools.

More women are applying to, going to, and graduating from college. Numbers don't lie.

The New York Times ran an article about this about 3 or 4 weeks ago. They said something about afirmative action for males. I don't have the link but searching online may yield something.

Maybe UVA or Georgetown will start affirmative action for white preppy males... casue I know both schools are lacking in that department.... ;) That would sure help me out.
