Urgent! Accepted by UCSD but failed to fulfill the student contract?

I am a transfer student and I was accepted to UCSD in this fall. However I failed to maintain a gpa of 2.0 in last quarter due to family business, actually someone in my family passed away which really brought me down. I informed the school and they told me that I would received a letter of cancellation and I may have a chance to explain what happened in that quarter. But the problem is that would there still be chance ( I mean a high chance)for they to reconsider my situation even if I explain. Besides I am facing a dilemma because I can choose UC Davis which they probably would accept me but the reason is that I don't wanna give up this valuable chance to UCSD and the date to sign the SIR is coming so I don't know what I should do. I am so depressed and helpless right now. Can anyone give some help or advice please!

this is what Ws are for.

even if you are rescinded, it’s not the end of the world, just retake your classes and do better in them and apply next year.

this might seem like a waste of a year but consider it an opportunity. Take this time to do internships and establish yourself in the field you want to go into. Work to help finance yourself. Make it a productive year.

^Agreed. If UCSD is preferable over going to UCD, then take a year to work hard and rebuild your gpa and then try again.

Or… if UCD will take you, why not just go there? I saw another recent thread that suggested the administration currently is chock full of stupid, but if they offer you good aid, then why not consider it? Despite the reputation on CC, UCD is a great school.

The way I see it, you’ll have to explain the relative difficulty of your situation to UCSD’s administration. Obviously you had a bad quarter due to all of the emotional stress you were going through. I can’t say whether or not you’ll have a high chance of convincing them or maintaining your admission, but it definitely can’t hurt to try.

I say give it your all, and if that doesn’t work, then just go to Davis! it’s a great school, and where my parents want me to go lol. I think that you should write a letter to UCSD’s administration to explain things, and hopefully that will help.

Best of luck!

Thank you for all the advice! But the problem is that how can I secure the place in Davis and San Diego at the same time? The SIR requires us to choose only one UC isn’t it? Can anyone tell me what should I do?

SIR to both. It will cost you an extra 100$ as they are non-refundable, but that’s what you’ll have to do.

You are allowed to SIR to both, but you’ll eventually and obviously have to cancel one of them.

haha I was “this” close to SIR-ing to two schools.

but would my admission of two schools be cancelled when they find out I sign two schools’ SIR

No I’m about 95% sure they won’t care.

Call to double check on Tuesday morning…or if someone else on here could verify that it’s ok, that could also work.
