I'm having a schedule crunch and I have an interview for volunteering at Alta Bates next week.

I had some questions about volunteering there.

Is it likely that I'll get to volunteer in the Berkeley (Dwight/Ashby) campuses as opposed to the Oakland campus?

How late into the night do they let you volunteer?

Do they let you volunteer on weekends?

Is it typically 3 hours a week or 4, and do they let you split up the hours among many days, or do they require you to do a large block once a week?

Thanks for the help, thing is I just got a UGSI position and by tomorrow, I need to decide if I have the space in my schedule for that and volunteering, not to mention off-campus research.

Hey, I’ve been volunteering there for a while so I think I can help you out. Schedule-wise it’s pretty chill - I usually only volunteer 3hrs/week and I skip weeks I have midterms. I think the latest shift you can do is 8-11pm (at least for ED) but it really depends on the department you’re volunteering in. Some of the departments follow a stricter 9-5 schedule. I think the campus you get also depends on the department you’re volunteering in. If you do ED you’ll probably get a Berkeley campus but you should talk to the volunteer coordinator if you really prefer the Berkeley campuses over Oakland.

I think i’ll have to start out at the lobby/gift shop first, or something menial like that. Do they have a bit of those kind of volunteering things during the late evenings or weekends in Berkeley campuses?

BTw, thanks guys, when I called the volunteer coordinator she sort of gave me attitude and said we’ll talk about it during the interview. But I need to plan all this out now so that things don’t conflict.
