This is very last minute so a quick reply is greatly appreciated.

I know that scoring well on the AP English test won't give me any direct course credit, but does it give me any advantage when it comes to choosing electives? I am a prospective English major just wondering if taking the AP English test has any value whatsoever.

I don’t understand how that would work. I doubt it. Unless it’s a language course, AP credit is pretty worthless once you’re admitted.

You might be able to get out of the intro English course if you get a 4 or 5…call the school

English won’t place you out of anything, and you won’t be able to use it towards your major. but a 4 or 5 does get you credit. You are only allowed to use 2 APs towards graduation.

You should also know that for other APs you only get credit after you take a class in that department (confusing, I know), but for English they grant you the credit automatically. You also might want that credit later if you want to take a lighter courseload or graduate early.

AP’s don’t do much here other than let you skip some courses or take only have the sequence of others. Like JS said, you still need to take the course or the next level up and sometimes the credit still won’t count.

If you want to graduate early, you only need 32 credits over 4 years. You can graduate in 3.5 years without much issue.
