Urgent: Chance Me Out at UCDavis Engg

Please help.

I need to decide my 1st major for UC Davis app shortly. Are my chances for Computer Eng reasonable (as in >75%). It is one of my top choice schools and top choice major. But I don’t want to screw up the admission chances based on major choice. Should I choose a different major?

Stats: CA public school, top twenty percent unweighted rank.
Female. Chinese. SAT- twenty one hundred (math: seven hundred seventy)
SAT subject tests- both physics and math-ii at seven hundred twenty
UC weighted gpa three.95; unweighted gpa three.70.
Good load of math and science courses, ap and community college & summer courses
Reasonable ECs, Essays (will neither hurt nor advance my case)
No science camp, etc.
No sports.

Thank you in advance.

febpita your chances are slim at uc davis ece.

I would suggest trying to get into a less competitive major, and then transferring into CSE, which is easier to do. However, if you have a background in CS or CE, and can demonstrate it on the application, I'd say you have a good shot. I definitely wouldn't call your chances "slim."

My2cents, Thanks. You will not get a job in sugarcoating industry.

fooshy, Thanks for the response. When you say less competitive major, do you mean within engineering, or outside of engg? Will UCD consider alternate major if I list ECE as first major. Should I put second major within engg itself, or you caution against it.

You could declare Computer Science in the College of Letters and Sciences, or even a non-engineering related major. I personally was accepted as Political Science and transferred into CS.

Thanks, Fooshy, for your help.

Your chances are not slim.
Your chances are decent.

Thanks, bandsislife. I stuck w/ my first choice major in the application submitted to ucd.

You have a good chance of getting your first choice. UCD uses a formula based scoring system to evaluate. You have average GPA and a higher than average SAT.
