I got deferred from Pittsburgh's School of Engineering about a month ago and instead of writing the essay and sending in additional scores, i chose to email one of their advisers asking what my chances, realistically, of getting admitted are. Soon after, he told me that it wasn't likely but if i applied to the school of Arts and Sciences my chances would go up. So i did and i recently received my letter of acceptance. Now my question is, if i choose to go to Pitt can i somehow get into the school of engineering after a year of taking basic courses and not have to start a whole new 4 year plan?

You can probably transfer into SSOE after a semester. You’d only be behind in one class (programming) which, unless you’re doing COE, isn’t going to really affect you at all. In order to be a strong transfer candidate, take the normal engineering freshman course load (which are actually all through the school or Arts & Sciences): Physics (calc-based), Chem, and Calc. You could also start taking a few electives to help with the breadth & depth requirement.

If you do well in the classes your first semester, you can ask to transfer in for the spring.
