One of the teachers writing my recommendation letter taught me both AP American History and AP Micro and Macroeconomics - the problem is, University of Chicago requires a recommendation from a math/science teacher, and I'm not on particularly strong terms with any I've had in junior or senior year. Can I classify economics as 'math/science' on the Common Application where they ask for the teacher's subject, fudging a little, and get away with it? Or should I mark him as 'Other' and wait for him to explain it in his letter?

I think Economics is usual considered a Social Studies class. University of Chicago categorizes it in the Social Studies Division.

However, if your high school categorizes it in Math you might be able to get away with it.
