I am applying to Rutgers. I have lived in NJ during my freshman and sophomore years of high school, but moved to and transferred to a different high school during my Junior year. My mom currently resides in NJ while I live with my dad in NY. Would I qualify for In-state tuition for Rutgers. There doesn't seem to be an option on the Rutgers application where I can explain these circumstances. PLEASE HELP

There is a form to fill out in order for the Registrar to determine residency. Some of the text might be helpful to you. It may be worthwhile to take a gap year and reside with your mother for 12 months.

Could I just use my Mother’s address as my residence on the Rutger’s App?

“Could I just use my Mother’s address as my residence on the Rutger’s App?”

And just hope that they won’t notice that your high school transcript is from a NY school?

Well, during freshman and sophomore years of high school I have been domiciled in NJ with my mother and have attended high school there. So they will see that for half of my high school career, I have attended a NJ school. In reading the form for residency qualification I came across, “Persons who have been residents in this state for more than 12 months prior to initial enrollment are presumed to
be domiciliaries of New Jersey for tuition purposes.” Does this not apply to me?

Contacting Rutgers is going to be your best bet.

If you are having trouble with reading comprehension of the residency requirements, take it to your parents or your GC to explain to you.
