UrGeNT: Cornell supp essay too long???

Hi,
My first supp essay, about intelletual interests is 325 words... limit is 250... but u send it by mail so they cant easily count words but im sure theyll notice its too long.. so what do i do:
- send it in as is and hope that they dont think: this dummy cant even follow a simple indication: REJECTED...
- cut it down to 250-275ish but cut a lot of content out...

I really dont know what to do ..pls help.. thanks...

Oh it doesn't really matter all that much. They just don't want a three page essay. Just write a page, double spaced, 12 font, you're fine...

You should be okay. I wouldn't risk hurting the quality of the essay just to have it meet size requirements.

thank u both for reassuring me... i was leaning towards that but just wasnt sure... but i'm not ginna double space like that it all fits on one page..

u really should try and double-space it cuz that's usually the standard for college essays. It's easier to read.

Mine was just under 700. I could not cut one word out. I figure if they read parts of it, it'll be sufficient. Just make sure it is well written and that every word does, in fact, matter. Mumbly essays are the worst :)

Well, here's the thing. The directions on the supplement implied (but did not specifically say) that the two essays should fit on one page. So, as long as they both fit on the same page, I don't see a problem. I didn't go over 300 on either essay, just for good measure, but I don't think a 325 would automatically get you rejected.

Well, mine fit on exactly two pages, but double-spaced, so it's easier and more pleasant to read.

Mine were 1.5 spaced.. Don't ask me why I did that.. But it didn't hurt me in any way, so don't panic, it's just spacing LOL

Mine were single spaced and I was still accepted. Trust me, I think they're going to be more concerned with what you wrote, not how you spaced it.

What kind of format did you guys use, though? I know this seems obsessive but I'm not sure if what I did was right. I rewrote the questions in italics above each essay and 1.5 spaced the whole thing. With a heading that had my name, SSN and school I couldn't have fit it on one page anyway, so it's two pages the way I did it.

Can I send it like that?

I had a heading with my name and SS#, wrote the questions in bold (also corrected the grammar when I rewrote the second question), and single spaced it.

But I really don't think formatting matters at all; as long as it's clear, you should be fine.

Ok...is this ok ifi "combine" both essays into "1"? Because see the thing is both essay topics overlap and i do a good job in combining my intellectual interests, how they evolved over time and now how do i plan to utilize them...so i combined it into one and made it into one page, font 11 and managed the margins.......what do u guys think???

bump .

Not a good idea...they gave you two separate questions...give them 2 answers

wait wakethatjump ur answer to one supplement was 700 words? or did u combine em?

indiegal076- the first question was 700. The second was about 200. Maybe that is too many, but oh well.

Well COrnelll specifies in it's essays form that both essays have to fit into one page. I am assuming that we have to single space evrything.

Psh Cornell doesn't actually care

Well it does coz see the thing is they dont want to be flipping pages. They check hundreds of apps a day, and they dont want to be wasting their time reading even 2 pages of ur work....its besides the point if u have it double-spaced. But i personally combined my essays and single spaced it! Fit it to one!
