I can't imagine we would do so. Things might be slightly negotiable, but there's simply no way Duke could afford to give a full ride to anybody who got a full ride to nowhere State. There's just too many of these kids.

The lady in Duke Admissions that I talked with last year said that if there is a significant change in economic status from what was originally reported on the Fin Aid forms, they will review the new info. Barring that, they're no reason to ammend the initial aid determination. They will not match another school's better offer.

no, definitely NOT merit aid - Duke only offers a select few full tuition merit scholarships (Robertsons, AB Duke, Duke Scholars, etc.) and those are very competitive and require special interviews.

Regarding, financial aid, they are definitely more lenient - if you received a higher f.a. package at another school, call the Duke f.a. office and they will be willing to work with you - I know from personal experience that the f.a. ppl. really do want to help you.

no way...............Duke does not match other offers from similar school. I know this b/c they refused to match Penn or Dartmouth.

^ you're talking about all sorts of aid, right? because that's what i know too.

leejwwc, by "willing to work" you mean negotiate? that's some news, i've heard multiple times they oppose to that, but your post gives me soem hope... what was your experience? can you bargain with finaid officers over aid money? if i present them another need-based offer that's slightly better (2K more in grant money) will it make a difference?

My understanding is that you are in the best position to negotiate if another school calculated an EFC that was radically different.
