URGENT: For March 2010 SATers who want to stab the CR curve

Okay, as all of you know, the CR curve was atrocious. I may sound like a desperate grade grubber, but all of the points I lost were from CR. I was super happy with my score, because I knew that CR was always not as "easy" (relatively) for me, so a 740 was cool. I expected that I got maybe 7 or so wrong, and I felt blessed considering that the CR curve would absolutely HAVE to be at least moderate if not very lenient. SOO, I log on to CB today, and what do I find? I ONLY GOT 3 WRONG IN CR. W.T.F. This was like a personal best for me and I had nothing to show for it. Even the thread that predicted the curves was like 800, 800, 800, 800 and then 780...

So anyways, how do I go about bringing this up to the CollegeBoard in some sort of formal appeal? Btw, by no means is this just about me, because I think it is really unfair that CB pulled this little stunt, which I prayed was an April Fool's joke.

I was looking at the March 2009 SAT curve thread and it seemed like the CR for them was also hard and had a harsh curve. Maybe this is typical to March, I honestly don’t know

sigh… maybe there’s no point in trying to appeal to CB. On second thought, I don’t think that they would change their curve and have to reprocess thousands of March SAT takers…

What did you get shah?

Don’t really want to mention it, but it killed my 700 in math and 700 writing.

I’m retaking it in May to bring both Math and writing to 770+ and Reading hopefully to atleast 700.

What a shame. I’m sure you would have a 700 CR if it weren’t for that lousy curve. Best of luck in May though!!

okay sd6…

the fact that you thought you did horribly on the CR but only missed 3, shows that you might have overreacted. Coupled with the fact that CR is usually your “worst” section, but only missed 3, shows that the CR wasn’t that hard.

I took the March SAT too, and I didn’t like the passages, but this was my best score for CR.

It truly wasn’t that hard if you think about it.

Yeah, it’s frustrating that the SAT is just numbers to colleges, no matter when it was taken, given that certain curves yield different results for each SAT even when responded to with the same levels of ability from students. If that made sense at all.

I don’t think there’s a point in appealing to CB, though if anyone creates some sort of mass petition I’ll be all for it. It’s curious that so many students received an apparently low score. If only if there was a QAS for this test–there’s probably a certain set of questions that tons of people got wrong.

dude ur appeal wont work

I was ****ed about this curve as well but it is what it is. The test was determined to be “easy” and the curve compensated for it.

Just retake in May :)

dude the math curve was also bad, -3 is a 720 *** is up with that?? I was hoping something like 800 770 740…

680 = -7 and 1 omit

Wow that really does suck >.<. I took it in Jan and got a 680 with -9 (or maybe -8 and 1 omit? I don’t remember) and I’m seeing now someone got the same score with -7 and 1 omit. The math curve sucked just as much (-3=720 >.<). I hate SATs haha. I’m not taking them again till October.

yea me neither. I’m going to take it again in October.

I certainly deserve the 580. 9 incorrect and 12 omitted–to many omission compared to last time.

I’m with you oblivi0n: retaking it on October.

wait…i also had -7 and 1 omitted but got a 660

I had -15 raw and got a 640 lol.

^That’s fair.

huh? I had - 9 and got a 670… how did the poster have a -7 and 1 omit for a 660??

So…
-9 raw 670 (olleger)
-15 raw 640 (newaccount)
-20 raw 600 (me)

Seems like the curve was harsh for 680+, but between 600 and 680, it became pretty lenient.

^ VERY linient if you ask me.

brownman23: I know what you mean, it’s just that historically, 3 wrong is almost never 740. And it’s not like this was reeeeallly easy like the math section.

everary: I know; I’m just a wishful thinker. I’ll let you guys know if there’s some sort of “mass petition.” I don’t think there’s anything to lose, unless I get some sort of failed petition penalty on my SAT score…

mabsjenbu123: I can’t count on doing as well in May…this was my only shot, and I feel like I want to make it count.
