when did the word "deadline" translate into "do not do/finish until the last possible day". Do you want to know how many times I've told my son (who waits until the last day to do EVERYthing", this is not how successful people operate. It's one thing to take until a deadline to complete a project, etc, but IMNSHO is it something else when you don't ever do anything before a deadline. I guess I have to wait for him to miss an important deadline for something in his life and not have the person on the other end cut him slack (like has happened in the previous 17+ years).
This is NOT the example he gets from me.

My son still has one app uncompleted (out of 10) with a deadline of today. I reminded him yesterday that we had a storm coming with the possibility of power outages. I even mentioned this thread. He started work on the app, but as far as I know (he stays up WAY later than I do) he didn't complete it. We still have power this am, but he's, of course, sleeping in. It's his thing, though, not mine. Nothing shabby about 9 apps and he already has 2 acceptances. Now that I've vented here, I'll keep my mouth shut.

Mine is in the same boat, bethievt -- he has one due today (although he'd told me in late Dec. that they were all in, grrrr...) out of 6, with one acceptance in hand where he'd be happy to attend, so he's less excited about finishing this one up today. He too was up late and is sleeping late. If he doesn't get it in, he doesn't get it in, I just feel bad about all the rest of his credentials and recs having been sent and him not bothering to finish the app. Just seems kind of disrespectful to me. But as you say, it's his thing, not mine. Thanks for also giving me an excuse to vent. ;) (And it may be ultra-chilly out here, but we don't have the excuse of an ice storm... although that might happen on the receiving end!)

My power is out right now. I'm not at my house. All of my apps were due the 1st, though. I bet that if you put a note about there being a snow day, they would be fine with it, there is a good chance that they wouldn't notice that it was late anyways.

LOL, my same post warning of the storm was posted where parents could read it (1,500 views) and kids (100 views).

why do colleges have due dates on National Holidays

why not just say Jan 2 and Jan 16...jeesh...are they trying to confuse and stress people even more than necessary?

why not just look at the calendar and say, k, our due date next year is Jann17th, not a national holiday, but a day when THE POST OFFICE IS OPEN

just irks me the stupidity, and yes I know kids should have the applications in earlier, but the colleges could show a little common sense

true...but I am a procrastinator myself and I do my best work last minute. Essays finished at 4:00 AM in the morning = A.
Essays finished at 7:00 PM a week before due = B.

Its a stream of consciousnesses when I write, so its useful. i think better late at night also. It depends I guess, though I wish I did not procrastinate (I like sleep at certain times too :D)
