Hello,

I have a question regarding financial aid. I love in Georgia, and I am eligible for the Zell Miller Scholarship, but I have yet to apply for it via my GaCollege411 account. I plan on going to GA Tech, but their financial aid deadline passed a month ago because they wanted me to fill out FAFSA but I'm not eligible to get any need-based financial aid from FAFSA, so I didn't fill out. However, I want to know if it's still possible for me to receive the Zell Miller Scholarship to pay for my tuition at GA Tech if I fill out and send out my GFSAPPS application for Zell Miller and get the Scholarship in say, a month?

Thank you and all help is greatly appreciated. I'm freaking out right now about it.

You should immediately do the FAFSA and the GT financial aid app. The deadline was 15 February, but they call it the “priority deadline”, so you may be ok for Zell Miller since that comes from the state and not GT FinAid.

Also you should call the GT FinAid office Monday morning and explain what is going on.

Have you been admitted to GT?

Also, in case GT doesn’t work out because you missed the deadline you should apply to one or more backup schools with later deadlines. For example Georgia Southern’s deadline is April 20th.

Hello,

Thank you for the response. I plan on calling GATech Monday and sending out my GSFAPPS and everything else Monday. Hoping for the best, because I sure as hell don’t want to pay en extra unnecessary 10k.

Thank The Lord. Fortunately, their priority deadline Is February 15 like you said, and that’s based on limited institute grants and scholarships. The final deadline is July 1 and that’s for everything including Zell Miller. I really appreciate you pointing that out that the priority deadline was February 15. Still going to call Monday to verify this information (it was on the website), but this is a huge relief.

They just changed the requirement. You must fill out the FAFSA for the Hope and Zell Miller. Even current students that only did GSFAPPS before. It starts for 2013 Summer term. The claim is it is to prove residency.

Does that also have the same deadline of July 1?

Thanks in advance.

Well according to this site - [Student Aid Deadlines - FAFSA on the Web - Federal Student Aid](http://www.fafsa.ed.gov/deadlines.htm#) - the federal deadline is June 30,2013. But for the state and college deadlnes, it says consult your financial aid administrator.
So I went to [GA Tech Financial Aid | Office of Scholarships and Financial Aid](http://www.finaid.gatech.edu) where I can’t find the final deadline for Georgia. I think the state of Georgia just passed this FAFSA thing so I am personally going with sometime after April 15. I think as an applicant you should seriously consider doing the Step One-GT application for Scholarship ASAP. When we did it 2 years ago, it didn’t have anything very personal or any financial info on it and took maybe 15 minutes. My student has received several GT merit scholarships and outside scholarship with just this form.

Unfortunately, I think this is really the beginning of trying to base HOPE on need rather than merit but it will take some time. Georgia Tech is a great school and a tremendous value but it does require hard work and time management. You will benefit greatly from staying on top of your schoolwork, financial deadlines and even EC deadlines. You will get messages from Financial Aid in Buzzport if they need something. After you get in, you will receive tons of reminder emails for everything, so work on a calendar system or something to keep up. So far the Financial Aid office functions have worked fine for us and our calls have been handled smoothly.
