Urgent Harvard Interview

i really need a list of the people you can contact to make an interview with for harvard, i tried e-mailing but no one has replied back to me. if anyone has it please give it to me. much thanks

I am an alum interviewer. Harvard contacts US-based applicants some time after they get all of your application materials. Getting such an interview is something that all US-based applicants get whose application is complete and for whom an interview can be arranged. Getting an interview does not mean that one is on the fast track to admission.

You don't contact Harvard to schedule an interview. The exception is if you are a US applicant who hasn't heard from Harvard by a certain date. I am fairly sure that the date is in either the application materials or will be sent to you after Harvard sends you a confirmation that your app is complete. I think the Harvard website also has info about this.

Most RD applicants won't be interviewed until Feb. When you get an interview is random in that it depends on the personal time schedules of alums who volunteer to help Harvard in this way.

Due to alum's schedules, some applicants won't be interviewed until March. With the exception of US applicants who are in such remote areas that there's no alum interviewer within a 1.5 hour drive or so, all US applicants with complete applications will be interviewed.

From what I can figure out, applicants living abroad are interviewed only if Harvard is seriously considering them for admission and there's an alum interviewer available or if the adcoms are visiting (They travel abroad in the summer to interview applicants). Strong international applicants can be admitted if there's no alum interviewer or adcom who can interview them. Not having an interview if there's no interviewer available doesn't hurt international applicants' chances.

If you check back posts in the Harvard board, there's plenty of info about the interviewing process.

the thing is part of the common application says this

Admissions Interview:
Have you had or have you scheduled an admissions interview?

Please contact our office if you need a list of our interviewers abroad. To receive the list electronically, please send an email to intladm@fas.harvard.edu and type International Interview in the subject line.

Yes

When

Where

With Whom No, but I plan to do so

When

Where

With Whom No

Please state reason

and it asks whether i haev scheduled an interview with somebody. and it asks when, where, and with whom. i dont want to seem like a slacker because i wasnt able to schedule an interview before i turned in my application. if you could elaborate on this i would be very grateful. at least to alleviate my christmas stress

As I mentioned before, the process is very different for international applicants. I am not an expert on those interviews. I am an alumna interviewer in the US.

If you tried to contact the Harvard adcoms today or within the last couple of days, my guess is that the reason you haven't gotten an answer is that more than likely they are on vacation. Many colleges including Harvard virtually shut down this week and next week. Dec. 25 is Christmas, and many Americans take vacation now. This particularly is true of faculty and staff at colleges.

I also would imagine that the adcoms worked lots of overtime handling the EA applications, and it would be possible that they get this week and next week off as compensatory time. After Jan. 1, they will be super busy again when applications come pouring in.

It's possible that you won't get a reply from them until after Jan. 1. Try posting on the Harvard message board and international board because some international students may be able to answer your question.

I also would imagine that your not scheduling an interview before the RD applications are due is common with international applicants. I imagine only applicants with inside knowledge such as having international parents who are alum would know to act differently. I doubt that your actions will count against you.

i'm sorry i was unclear. i live in richmond , virginia. so i'm not an international applicant. what would you suggest i put for the spot under interview status? it has

Yes
No I plan to do so
and no

unders yes and No i plan to do so it ask when with who and where. so i cant really say "no i plan to do so"

and under no it asks for "please explain why" and i dont want to sound like i dont want to. what do you suggests?

also i dont see where the messageboard is on the harvard.edu site

Take a close look at the application. I am virtually certain that the part you are referring to refers to international applicants who are living abroad. I believe that applicants residing in the US fall in the categories that I mentioned in my first response to you.

I was not referring to a message board on Harvard's site, but to the Harvard message board that you can find in the Ivy League area here in CC.

oh wow, i am incredibly inept. i'm so utterly sorry for wasting your time. 2 sections above it it says "FOR INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS" only

Edited to take out stuff you don't need anymore. BTW I did the same thing as you, so dont' worry about it. =) Just for anyone else's future reference though:

"Applicants will be contacted by a local alumnus/a to schedule an interview once their application has been received and processed at the Admissions Office. If an applicant has not been contacted with four weeks of sending his/her application, he/she should call the Admissions Office."
