Does anyone know how much Washington University offers for National Merit Scholars? I have to mail my postcard the next day and I really need to know. Thanks!

$2,000 a year ($1,000 per semester) - at least that is what it was last year
(for D who is currently a WashU freshman)

Thank you very much! Is your daughter getting any other merit based scholarship though to help out with the cost? $2,000 a year doesn't seem to help very much.

Anyone know if you are a NMF are you notified any earlier than anyone else (esp if you put WUSTL as your number one on your card)?

NMF will not hear on admission any earlier than anyone else. In fact, I doubt the status even helps much on admission. Keep in mind a large percentage of applicants will have that status.

All Finalists listing Wash U as their first school get the $2K, which is renewable, though Wash U could change its mind at any time.

If you win one of the $2500 awards from the National Merit competition, Wash U will extend that for the last three years instead of the $2K.

You will not know about the $2500 awards in time to influence admissions decisions. They are known in time to influence selections off the wait list, if Wash U considers that factor.

By the way, I believe Wash U is by far the highest ranked university to offer any kind of automatic money to NMFs. I would not be surprised to see them stop in the not too distant future. Other Elite schools have severely limited merit money in favor of robust financial aid.
