So I’m an average student in terms of grades kids are getting nowadays . 4.2 gpa and 1200 sat for reference as to who I am . And I’m failing precalculus with an F . There’s nothing I can do I raised it I’ve tried all semester. Now I’ve already applied to UC’s and CSU’s . I’ve already talked to my counselor and principal and told me that Precalculus is the college gatekeeper and that I need it to get into colleges BECASUE my highest math is alg 2 . So now I come here seeking a second opinion. Do I take the F on the chin or drop the class ( which they said they could do ) . Time is running out . Thank you
Also I forgot to mention I would take edgenuity ( an online class make up program ) and would ideally be finished during winter break so colleges can see that I made up the class . But I feel like I’d be making the class up for my high school and not college …
CSU’s and UC’s have provisional admission contracts if you are accepted and the best way to have any acceptance rescinded would be getting an F in any Senior year course.
The UC’s and CSU’s have no Pre-calculus requirement but to be a competitive applicant having completed Pre-Calculus would be preferable.
If you do not think you can pull out a C- for the semester, I would drop the class. You will need to contact all the schools you applied if you drop the class or if you get an F. Withdrawing sounds like a better option and then possibly retaking the class on-line. Not sure why you think you would do better in an on-line class vs. a face to face class but that is up to you and your counselor.
UC’s tend to be less forgiving on D’s and F’s Senior year than CSU’s everything is evaluated on a case by case basis.
Best of luck and unfortunately there is not a good option since your HS course rigor will take a hit by dropping the class but I believe an F will have more serious consequences. Have you talked to teacher about extra credit? Is there a chance of getting a passing grade if you do well on the semester final?
