Urgent help! Not sure which university to choose.

I've been accepted in to Temple University with $7500 scholarship and Knox College with $27000 scholarship. The resulting amount of money I will have to pay for both are about are around 20K+ with 3K difference. My mom wants me to consider CC because she says it's cheaper and I've gotten a lot of advice to choose CC as well, but with further calculation, CC is still 20K for me as an international student (is this accurate?), so I don't think price will be the deciding factor. However, I also plan to transfer to better universities later on, so perhaps CC will help me more with that? I don't know which to choose and I need to pay enrollment fee to Temple and Knox before May 1st. Help!

If they are all roughly the same price, which do you like the best? I you weren’t able to visit in person, do you have a list of things you really want while at a college? Which one had the most? There must have been a reason you put them on your application list. Review the reasons, and make sure the school you like has the most “checks.” Why do you already plan to transfer? You need to consider that you may just love it there and not transfer- so will you be staying the US or going back home? If you stay, which has the best Career Services center to help you get a job?

Community usually is much cheaper for tuition. The reason people choose them is they often stay at home to save on room and board, which will not be an option for you. Or they may not have done well in HS so they are trying to bring up grades. Or they don’t really know what they want to do, so they get a 2 year degree first. Also, which CC would you choose? The living costs can vary widely- smaller, rural areas in less populous states will be less expensive, but the school may not be as strong once you get an Assoc and want to transfer. What is your intended major? Is it stronger at Temple or Knox? You should really call both schools and see if they have a dept to assist international students.

Good luck

I think I will like Temple more as it’s in a bigger city and will allow me more options regarding majors as I’m not quite sure what I want to study yet, though I’m leaning on Biology.

I’m planning to transfer because honestly, I want to graduate from a top university. I’ve been accepted to Brown last year but couldn’t attend because of financial reasons. I took a gap year in hope of applying to other unis but because of some errors, I only got into these two but I know I’ve still got a shot at better unis.

I would choose a CC in California, not quite sure which one yet. I’m positive I’ll do well and hoping to transfer to UC Berkeley if I do choose CC or other top schools if the option is available to me.

Which gives me a higher chance of transferring to a top uni? Temple or CC? I’m hoping I’ll do quite well at both.

Go to Temple. Stop worrying about a “top university”. Go and put your best effort into your four years there. This is assuming you can afford your EFC, though (which sounds comparable with all options). You would be taking a gamble with the CC that your transfer to Berkeley would work out. If you really want to transfer to a higher ranked college, it seems to me you would have more options if you do well at Temple for 2 years than at a CC. If the cost is the same, go with Temple. But keep an open mind that it might be the right place for you for 4 years vs. transferring out.

Cc in CA is only a good idea if you have 110,000 for your last two years at a UC. There’s no financial aid for international s. Where do you currently live? Are you used to the countryside or would you enjoy its charms. Are you used to an urban, slightly unsafe environment and used to

Temple’s a good school Knox is a good small liberal arts school, but very rural with little arts/culture surrounding. Insular is the word. Many students want that and thrive in it…others not. Two very different choices.

… sorry, I got cut off and lost my connection!!!
International transfers do not get financial aid, so that the only school to which you could transfer would be those that you can afford without financial aid.
Both colleges offer good programs in biology - any reason you chose this subject?
Since only 1/3 of your courses will be in biology, you may want to look at the core courses, general education/distribution requirements to see which ones you like best.
More precisely:
Temple is one of the three big state universities in Pennsylvania, after Penn State and Pitt. Philadelphia is a wonderful city but North Philly is gritty and requires a certain amount of savvy and awareness of your surroundings. Did you get into the Honors Program?
Knox is probably stronger academically (I realize it’s debatable though) but is also quite isolated. As a LAC, it ofers closer contact to your professors and more of a sense of community but if that community isn’t to your liking, it’d be difficult. The countryside is nice and it’s 3hours from CHicago but most of your time would be spent in a rural situation, which means safer but also fewer internship opportunities. The college does a good job providing activities to do on campus for free but the surrounding area isn’t the best.
In terms of transferring, you’d have better odds are transferring in the state(s) surrounding your university and would receive a better education with lesser risk than if you attended a community college.

If CC costs the same, you ought to go to Knox or Temple because transferring is extremely difficult for international students who need aid.
