Hello, i need some advice and I'd appreciate it if you can take a little time to help me out. I am a soon-to-be senior in highschool, my grades from 9-10 werre As and Bs. Junior year my house caught on fire the beginning of the year, and i lost everything i ever owned, including a brand new Camaro. this hit me harder than you can imagine. my grades dropped significantly. so as of right now i have a 3.00 GPA and about 1700 SAT score. i know NO UC schools will take me initially, so i planned to make appeals to every UC school, my goal is UCSB at best, and UCR at the least. what are your opinions of my appeal chances? I plan to major in psychology, it only make sense in my situation after all i went through.

can some one with experiences please help me out, i am under an unbelievable amount of stress :/

The most important thing you can do is to study your tail off for the SAT and take it again in the fall. Try to shoot for above a 1900, at least an 1800. I know how stressful college applications can be but just relax. work hard on the app, especially your personal statements and talk about your experiences with the fire and how it affected your academics. If you appeal and still don’t get in, make sure you apply to a few cal states or maybe you could even go to a cc and transfer to a top UC. Try not to stress too much man, you’re going to get to where you need to go. Good luck.

Whoa there calm down, First things first is that GPA. Now you need to look at what that GPA includes, is that weighted/unweighted? Do you have plenty of Honors/AP classes? Do you know what your UC gpa is?

Your record isn’t exactly spotless but you can still make it to your choice schools especially if you work hard on that SAT

@elemental951 yeah I would say the essay on my college app is really good/convincing I talked about how the fire made me more mature, I even took classes to have it revised. I guess all I can do now is improve my SATs. But thanks for your time

@ETSTU5993 to be honest with you im not sure if it’s weighted or unweighted or the difference, on my report card it just said 3.04 I haven’t taken ANY ap/honor classes my whole highschool career, but next year I’m taking 3. Hoping UCs would see that I am trying to get back on my feet. I just hope they would give me a chance you know?

If you want to get into a UC, don’t be a snob. Make sure you include Merced, Riverside and Santa Cruz. Just saying that because this is posted under Santa Barbara.

@consider i know, i applied to every single UCs. i posted under Santa Barbara dont mean anything, it’s just my favorite school, and my top chioce. all i’m hoping for is for them to give me a chance, if not, okay im fine with that too. but i didnt say anything about UCR, UCSC, or UCM.
