[Urgent Help] Retaking a math class

Hey fellow students,

I'm a freshman planning to transfer in 2 years to the UC system. I'm majoring in Computer Science. Basically, my situation is that I'm in the low C range of my Precalculus class. That is without the final even being calculated (worth 25%). This means that however I do on the final, my grade will inevitably go down. I addressed this to my counselor and she said that if I do get into the circumstance of ending up with a D, I could retake the class and the latter will replace the previous grade. She also said that I'll have TAG which will guarantee my acceptance into some of the schools anyways so I shouldn't panic.

I'm just kind of freaking out at this point and getting overly anxious because I feel like retaking the class makes me look bad and screw my future. Or maybe it won't matter anyways because it'll get overridden? I'm studying my ass off to try and go for the final ace, but the chances are low, so I might as well plan ahead instead of dwelling/stressing on it excessively.

My current game plan to retake Precalculus in the Spring 2015 semester. Follow through with Calculus 1 in the Summer. Calculus 2 in the Fall. Then, Calculus 3 in Spring 2016. Lastly, I would take summer classes at Berkeley for any lacking engineering/mathematics courses not offered at my community college. Of course, I will be looking to overload each semester to make sure I get the GE's done.

Current grades:
Eng101A = A
Psy101 = A
Phil100 = B
Math = C- (Likely going to be a D after the final)

What's your guys' take on this?

Thanks.

Note: I am a Computer Science major. It's embarrassing to know that I'm not doing well in Precalculus and may get a D, but I realize that I haven't been prioritizing my time among the classes. I've woken up and will hopefully get straight A's from now on.

For the UCs specifically you are better off with a W or a D than a repeat A rather than a C.
For a lot of private universities it will be different tho.

Thanks for the response, bomerr! I think I’ll just settle for a D so I can repeat the class in order to shoot for the A. Thanks again.
