So I don't exactly see how CARS/EBill works. The due date for the first payment is in 3 days and I'm panicking.

On bearfacts, it says that $9300 has been sent to my CARs. The minimum amount I have to pay by Aug 15th is $2300, but when I try to pay through E-Bill, it says "From: checking account," in which I have no money. So, am I supposed to wait for CARs to transfer the $9300 into my checking account?

Also, what exactly is Electronic Funds Transfer? It's just basically the thing I use to add/edit my bank accounts, right?

Sorry guys, and thanks muchos!!

The money that was sent to your CARS account pays the balance. So, say u owe like $10 000 and $9300 was sent to CARS then u still owe $700. In other words, the balance on your CARS account is $700. Money sent to CARS does not go to any of your personal banking accounts unless there's a refund.

Electronic Funds Transfer is the way Berkeley sends refunds to your personal banking account of your choosing. So, if you have a CARS balance of say $8000 and $9300 was sent to CARS, then u would have $1300 leftover. The leftover (or refund) is sent via EFT to whatever bank account u specify (or activate).

Its ok. There have been many questions on financial aid, so dont worry. Since you have 9300 sent to CARS, that will pay your minimum. It automatically pays it and starts to pay any other fees, like your dorm. Then if there is still money left in your CARS, you will receive a refund. EFT is how you get your refund. The remaining balance gets sent to your bank account. So you dont need to pay your e-bill with your bank account. That option is for ppl not on financial aid, and when you get other fees on your CARS throughout the year and since you have no money credited to your CARS account, you need to pay it out of your pocket.

Suzzieq beat me to it. lol.

So was that "$9300" that has been sent to your CARs all your grants/loans/scholarships? Or money you personally added?

It was all my grants, loans, and scholarships.

So does that mean if I received a $160 refund for CalSo, CARS will automatically deduct that much from my balance?
Also, I haven't opened up my own checking account yet so can I have them withdraw money from my parents' checking account this time only and then for the 2nd payment, have them take it from my own account?

BearGal, are you on financial aid? I you are, then the checking account is only for you to receive your refund. But if you are not on fin aid, then it doesnt matter what checking account you are using to pay your fees, as long as they are paid. And by 2nd payment, do you mean next month or next semester? If you are living in the dorms, do you plan on paying monthly? And your CalSo refund will be used to pay your balance.
