URGENT HELP: Wrong teacher recommendation

So, I got rejected from a university during ED. But in one of my teacher's evaluation forms, he used the university's name. So, during RD, I submitted that recommendation. I'm so screwed cos all the other schools will see this. Is there a way for my teacher to change what he submitted earlier on CommonApp? What should I do? Pls help.

I'd say go ahead and email the other schools about this issue; explain the mistake and emphasize that you're very interested in them specifically. Try emailing or calling your recommending teacher and ask him to edit the rec so that it includes the correct school name. It will probably have to be sent by mail this time.

If you won't be able to contact the teacher before school starts again, then get in touch with him ASAP when that happens. Meanwhile, tell the school about the delay. Remember to reassure them that you are interested in their specific college/university, and it was a silly mistake. (But try not to babble!) They will most likely be accommodating, and will accept a new, mailed recommendation as long as it's sent as soon as possible and accompanied by the above polite, coherent explanation.

Good luck!

Thanks for the reply.

I already contacted my teacher and he was asking me if he can edit it online. Is that possible? If not, I'll have to mail the corrected copy ASAP.

Don't schools realize that most people apply to more than one school? Do you think this single thing will jeopardize my entire application? I'm really worried. Seems like an automatic-reject now.

Every school is definitely aware that you're applying elsewhere. Obvious evidence of that through a small error, like the one with your recs, WILL NOT be cause for automatic rejection. You're still okay. People make small mistakes with recs, essays, statistics, all the time, and still get accepted. Just look at half the recent posts on this board!

I don't think your teacher will be able to update your recommendations online once they've been submitted, but if he really wants to try it that way, you may want a second opinion on that (because I could very well be wrong). It's probably best to just get new, correct copies from him (sealed if you signed the waiver) and mail them now.

I just checked the CommonApp help page, and they don't seem to say whether a teacher can edit online or not. Either ask your teacher to go online and try editing them, or just send them by mail.

The recs may only mention the school by name once, and be otherwise universal, or they may be tailored totally to the original ED school. Do you know which is the case? If it's the former, you may be able to talk to your other universities and explain the issue without your teacher resending everything. But in any case, DO TALK to the schools now.

bump having same problems

Teachers (and counselors) cannot edit school forms after they have been submitted. The submission instructions state this explicitly.
